Maybe a large question to ask? sorry im not up to speed on these as i come from years ago when you had to sample your synths note by note into your akai!

But some people say its easier to make soundfonts?!?

Are these easier to do than sampling? and are they read by any Sequencer software like FL, Cubase etc?

I think it's only possible at the moment if you have a Soundblaster card and the free Soundfont Editor called Vienna (works only with SB cards).
I used a soundblaster in the early 90's and it was very easy to create SF2 with it.
If someone knows such an application like Vienna it would be very nice to post here.

Awave Studio, SynthFont, SF2Comp, VSampler, Chickensys Translator, and probably a few other things will let you do it without infecting your system with Creative products.

Still, sfz is probably your best bet. Everything is out in the open, simple, flexible, blah blah. A nice touch is the easy access to randomizing functions; creatively and sensitively used, this can enhance expressiveness.

(Sheesh, that's too many big words this early in the morning...)
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

synthfont is the free one, i dont think its completely done yet, it uses a editor within it called "Viena", with one N. I was playing with it last night.

isnt there any way to "simulate" this stupid hardware bank stuff so all users can use vienna? I hate that we can't simply do it like every other program in the universe. Some one should make a hack :(

I will give Viena from SynthFont a try.
It looks like the original Vienna. If it works without SB card, this is THE thing, hopefully.

i just emailed the programmer of it if he could make it a "standalone" because right now its somewhat of an "Extension" of synthfont.

Here you'll find a free SB emulator:

Try it and tell us how it went.

that wont work, man. It needs to use the hardware ram on the sb card... I wont even try that ;)

I used to use vdmsound for impulse tracker in Winxp, until I found tracktion. I had no idea what vst's were lol

BUt it says:

"...is not a mere 'wrapper' or 'bridge' to existing audio hardware. It is a self-contained, 100% software emulation program that is completely independent of your audio hardware type and settings. VDMSound works with any soundcard, and will even work on computers that have no audio hardware at all (for instance, instead of outputting sounds through your soundcard using the standard Windows drivers, VDMSound can easily output them to disk)."

Wouldn't that work?

i doubt it... i seriously think it cant emulate hardware ram

Hi,

look for a program called megafont this will let you create soundfonts on any computer and it's free.

Thanks. God Bless.

You can also use Chainer to create soundfonts-load up the plugs you want a soundfont of in it,and choose export.Choose soundfont as the exported media, your destination folder and the notes you want exported.
