Delta SP. Is it useable?

I wrote a program called Delta SP. It's listed in the hosts section. Has anyone tried it. What is the main drawback/s of the program? Is it worth using. Did you ever make a song with it. I'd like to hear feedback of any nature.

Has anyone tried it? - Yes
Is it worth using? - Yes
Is it usable? - No
Did you ever make a song with it? - No
Delta SP is a good free host with a lot of features but lacks of usability. So keep it going on ...
(I'll send you a list of bugs and suggestions)

I tried it out a while back, I had trouble figuring out how to set up the directX latency, which kinda gotr sorted out ?, and a lot of vsts didn't function properly for me(stuck notes), maybe taht was 3 months ago or more?. One thing I didn't like was the GUI or general graphics ,it looks kinda window 95 ish to me.
I never finished a song with it, it just didn't really suit me .

Sounds interesting. It's nice to see people have used it.
I'm planning to port the whole thing to c++ from pascal, but thats a big maybe. I just wonder which route to take, the big sequencer type thing, or a modular thing where you can make your own sequencer from different parts.
Anyway thanks for the replies so far. Food for thought.

Deciding which direction to take it will depend entirely on what your predicted client base will be. You'll generate more buzz on KvR with a modular style host, but we're only a small part of the world. There are a lot of people out there who have never even HEARD of an internet forum that are Googling for "computer recording software", and if you give them a traditional package at a good price, you may well discover that there are more clients out there for that sort of thing.
SO, I guess at the end of the day it depends on your objective. Jorgen of eXT made the move from traditional to modular, and while it's been a slow build-up (not the code, which comes rapidly, but the user base!) he now has a fairly large and dedicated customer base. If you want to do something similar, and build up a slow burn around a unique product, then expect it to be just that-- slow.
If you want to make a product that the average person can pick up and start making music with right out of the box, you'd be well served by making a traditional sequencer.
That said, I haven't actually tried the software yet (sorry!). But having a look at it because of this thread is making me think, "Damn! Looks like the beginning of a great thing!" When I clear up some time to try it out, I'll report back to you. Sounds quite interesting, though. I'm curious about the built-in sampler.

Hi
I tried this for some hours. I look for something like AudioMulch, but with a good sequencer
, where I can use my plugins, record, have a good sequencer etc, to make "raw" loops (I put my loops in Ableton Live). Well, I saw this guy and liked what I saw: it got almost everything, but there are some latency problems and sometimes I get hangups (havent tried to record). With better graphics, less latency I'll go for it
Good luck!

I thought about your suggestions and went for the out of the box style and made it all as easy as possible(I Think). It worked out well in the end with a much better program. Thanks.Lunch Money wrote: If you want to make a product that the average person can pick up and start making music with right out of the box, you'd be well served by making a traditional sequencer.

wow.. you really did make a few adjustments! Visually it's much more appealing. I think you're definately stepping in the right direction. It reminds me of Massiva in many ways now, combined with an interesting take on modularity. Keep at it!

Hi
I'we been testing Delta Sp and a lot other Studio/tracker software. It stands between Aodix and Delta SP. My first impression was Nice
looks better than last version. But latency? It took 3 sec to get any reaktion
...Ok so I have to dig deep down and adjust some parameters. After 10-15 min of work its Ok. Im not that experienced and most of us are not? So just make a nice default adjustment plz
Graphics looks better but Aodix looks best. Study, no sharp color, no sharp corners etc. I really like your product, so thats why I write and I will probably buy it. It got all what I need: I can build my Vst set, has a good sequencer etc. Im happy

I'm glad you liked it. Sorry about the latency thing, it's just that those settings make it better for a wide variety of soundcards and onboard sound, I'll try to figure out a more user friendly way. Anyway, there is a new version coming out this week with two very serious errors fixed, so maybe I can hold it a little longer and put a "user friendly" latency setup there. The way it is now, I can get down to 20ms with just plain onbaoard sound on a 1GHZ PC. But thanks again, and I'll try to make it easier to adjust if possible.Nettan wrote:Hi

Hi.
I have really been interested in this project. I love the modular synthesis combined with sequencer idea, and I would like to dig into it a bit more. what I find problematic is that several vst pluggins would not function, or would crash the program. I also found the arangement window difficult to deal with. But I want you to know that this program has some very serious potential!
Now that I am through exams I am going to give it another shot.
cheers.

I tried DeltaSP once agaian - Wow
- nice change -now I realized how powerful it is
but:
I have problems with coming to gripes with the sequencer - is it correct that eack track can only contain one pattern? (so that e.g. if I want to have an alternative pattern for a kick-drum I have to use another track?
) - edit: I just found out that's nosense
- but how can I tell one from the other - how can I easily exchange one pattern with another?
- I guess I still need to adjust myself to its philosophy
Also it seems that DeltaSP doesn't support automation - is that correct?
But all in all it's very impressive and promising to say the least.

Seems a good idea, I'll try put pattern based tracks in soon. It's also the only way to get decent "audio" tracks in as well for pro-recording and mastering. It's easier to edit a fully written song without parts in some cases, but much easier to write one with parts.jens wrote:I tried DeltaSP once agaian - Wow- nice change -now I realized how powerful it is

Hi;
Just been playing with DeltaSP again for a couple of days now. I love the new interface. the black is REALLY nice, and the loop/transport is easier to see and figure out. I like this alot.
Also, the built in modular synth has really amazing sound. Your oscillators and filters are really outstanding!

I only have one question; I have some real problems with stability that are keeping me from working on anything serious. I get crashes all the time. Mostly when trying to replace a synth/SCD/vst.
I am on AthlonXP 1900+, 512meg DDR RAM, ASrock K7M2V mobo, and M Audio Delta 44 sound card, as well as an SB Live running Kx project driver.
Thanx for the cool software.
when and if you can get this nicely stable, I will consider investing. I will keep testing the free version till then, though.
