Does anybody know of any good scoring freeware ?
I've been using the old Passport Encore for years now and it's by far my oldest program. But it's time to be replaced.
(It has to be able to record live via midi, and print out scores.)

I'd be interested too. I've got XGworks, which is a pain in the ass to print.
And even something HALF as good as Sibelius that's freeware - I'd be content with.

Thanks Jt, that does look swank indeed.
But in order to get the 'Print Sheet', it's MORE than the freakin' studio! ($29!
)
But maybe not a bad deal for mchlwsn. But I gotta try and use XGworks more if scoring software is still at a premium.

well i think thats how they make their money, provide free software but then charge for add ons... finale would be an alternative but it's $20 for the cheapest version (don't quote me on that) and doesn't have midi save.Steven West wrote:Thanks Jt, that does look swank indeed.But in order to get the 'Print Sheet', it's MORE than the freakin' studio! It's as bad as smoking isn't it? Sure the Bic lighter made of plastic, metal, and combustable fuel is .99c - the pack of cigarrettes made of tobacco and paper/cardboard is $8.00

Finale do a great freebie for small notating duties - with very cheap upgrade paths to any extra features you might need.

There's even an upgrade discount from the free version. Nice.

Thanks for the replies. Downloading Finale Notepad.
I just realized that I've had Encore since Windows 3.1 . Remember those days? My pc booted up with a C./ prompt and I only started Windows when I absolutely had to. It was so crappy I actually preferred using DOS. And then you were always messing around with the exec.bat and config.sys files. Things have certainly gotten better.
Thanks, again.
