Hey all, i had a thought, and wondered if anyone has tried this. i have an onboard sound card (sis) and a SB Live-KX-Asio (i know i know, i actually have a m-audio 2496 going into a new computer, but bear with me). Now, with the Asio4all driver, would there be any advantage to running the onboard soundcard alongside? Could i offset some of the load?

I don't know of any hosts that are able to use 2 soundcards for audio at the same time.
i have 2 soundcards and I can use the onboard sounds of my SW1000XG and record audio with my DSP2000 at the same time.

Sonar can and CoolEdit/Audition can (guess those might not exactly be "hosts"),but....
you cant do it using ASIO.
you cant do it using ASIO.

I'm trying to think of one that can't. Shirley your mixer can route channels to devices?cptgone wrote:I don't know of any hosts that are able to use 2 soundcards for audio at the same time.

What load are you trying to offset? if it is CPU for vst, then no.puerileboy wrote: Could i offset some of the load?
As far as ASIO hosts go, I think (back in the day) logic platinum could do multiple ASIO cards. (I had logic silver for pc and it couldn't). The other issue is if you are trying to make a multi-track ASIO recording system out of 2 cards, they should (must?) be synchronized (you will have to connect them digitally and set one to slave clock in order to do this). Most budget cards and certainly onboard audio will not be able to accomplish this.

I think Logic did SPECIFIC multiple ASIO cards. In general though, ASIO is not multi client, and you won't be mixing different makes of cards in your machine and getting them to be running at the same time with BOTH doing ASIO. Now if you had one on ASIO and another on WDM drivers, now we're talking. My Pulsar II allows me to run multiple driver sets at the same time. Never really looked into trying it with other cards, it's just you can custom configure what inputs and outputs on what drivers are running at any one time in the environment. Is there other cards that have that flexiblity too? I'd be curious to find out.

As a matter of fact if you disable the internal audio card you will see improved preformance with the rest of the system.
