Hello,

I realise I'm gonna look like a total twat for asking such a dumb question, but bear in mind a question is only dumb if you already know the answer... :)

I cannot for love nor money seem to record midi events played via my midi keyboard in Cubase SE.

Previously I used (well I still am because of this problem) Cubasis which was easy - select a midi track/channel in the sequencer, press record, play keyboard, press stop and voila, a midi part was dumped in the sequencer.

I cannot seem to do this in SE. I have read the manual a couple of times with regard to this function but it doesn't work, so I must have overlooked something.

If anyone can offer any advice I would be grateful. At the moment I'm stuck with drawing notes in the piano roll, which is far from ideal.

I'm using an Evolution MK-249 keyboard if that helps.

Thanks. :help:

I'm not a cubase SE user, but I guess there's some kind of midi monitor, eg when you play on your keyboard some light lights up, or something like that.

If midi monitor doesn't light up when you play your keyboard, then something is not connected right either in the hardware (cable) or in software (wrong midi input).

At least it's the first thing I'd check.

hmmmmm...I guess your able to play vsti live...
So,SE is seeing your midi drvr then. And you see,and choose your midi drvr in the "inspector".

Well...are you sure you have the newest drvr avalible?
Possible it`s not up to date with SE/XP-SP2,(service pack2).

If you had a midiman,I`ve had similar troubles...but seems your keyboard is also doing your midi conversion.

It's really weird. I can play a vst with my keyboard, until I hit record. Then Cubase starts drawing midi part as the cursor moves along yet no sound is made when I play my keboard. The transport bar shows midi input, but no out. If I press stop, sound is restored and I can play again.

With this and no drag and drop I'm really pleased I chose SE  Back to Cubasis for now.

Cheers guys. I might try a reinstall. :?

When you say you see it draw the midi notes...do they disappear when you call up that midi trk as to edit it or manually draw on it.(double clicking the midi trk)

Or can you see that all the midi data has been "sucked" to the very beginning of that trk...all bunched together?

Post

neither. I meant it draws a midi part without any notes. When I stop this part disappears...

Post

I see.
That is really weird!Rec=no notes and no sound.

It`s normal for the trk to disappear after stop if there is no notes recorded.

I`m baffled. :-o

PS: By the way...KVR is now and has been for awhile real slow in loading pages...is this the same at your end?

Post

it's okay here this morning, but it varies.

Thanx.

I know kvr`s service get`s weighted down during high traffic...but i`m also having intermittant cable connection probs the last 3 day!!!

I couldn`t tell if it was kvr or my cable connection now...hahaha...it`s the cable this time.

Have a tech...cough cough...coming here on monday to ...cough cough...service it. 8)
