Hi,

it's been some time since I posted a Zone X track...

but at that time it was a very old song and this one here is brand new :D

the fork

Any comments?

Post

jens's url finally explained ;)

this song definately IS oldskool, i have no idea how serious this is supposed to be, but it was fun :D

:hihi:

actually this is meant quite serious... :?

With 'oldschool' I refer to the original gothic such as Bauhaus or the old Christian Death stuff when Rozz Williams was still alive and the singer...

Zone X exists for more than three years now but Andreas (the singer - he also usually does most of the drum-programming and some other programming as well) and me are doing music together for a much longer time  :D

i know what oldskool gothic is, quite a bit TOO well ;)

years of "experience" you might call it, i'm still on goth-partys every few weeks, and i actually still like it sometimes.
but well, i usually do not take it serious at all, bauhaus for example i do not consider "serious" but "fun, but good fun" ;)

oh and here are the lyrics:
The Fork

the fork in your eyes
that holds the line
the fork is alive
and makes you mine

it makes you vomit
it makes you cry
sometimes you love it
sometimes you wish to die

I have seen you doing things
I'd told you to avoid
If only you had asked

And I think I don't like it
I think I don't like you

And I promise my son there will
come the day I'll take
the fork and drill it

and I'll drill it
and I'll drill it
and I'll drill it

the fork in your eyes
that holds the line
the fork is alive
and makes you mine

it makes you vomit
it makes you cry
sometimes you love it
sometimes you wish to die

Build me a temple and light a candle on the altar
cover my soul with clothes of gold
pray for the gift of my attention

and obey
to me

I think I still don't like you

and so I'll drill it
and I'll drill it
and I'll drill it.

ah o.k. I think I get you - you mean it's all meant a bit ironic - so it's not strictly serious though it's serious? :ud: :D

Yeah anyway: Zone X was always very much about irony and parody :)

yeah, things like that.
having fun with the attitude of the song itself inside the song :help:

The chorus reminds me of David Bowie for some reason.

Never was into Goth or anything remotely close, but I very much like the abstract sound you create here with a nice blend of weirdness topped with a good vox which at times I found reminiscent of the 'Rotten' vox although different.

:)

thanks Hellbilly and Mark :-)

Yeah, I think you're spot on about the Rotten-remark...

Andreas is quite a big Rotten fan (well not as big as a Zappa-fan) but anyway - yes, we're both into P.I.L. :-D

b.t.w.: somehow the tune also reminds me of old Genesis-stuff, especially the 'build me a temple'-part - am I being foolish? :?

cool track zone,
was a great fan of bauhaus in their day.

vox sounds great, passionate & confident, blends well with the electronica of the backing track.
The chorus stitches everything together nicely, a well structured piece I reckon.

hope to hear more in the future.
