Is this the most awfull GUI ever made ?
Have you seen this ?
http://namm.harmony-central.com/WNAMM05 ... ument.html
Sounds more interesting to my opinion... All new materials...
And the standart quality has much improved since Miroslav is out.
Anyway we'll have to wait to know...

isnt Miroslav stuff really old ? Not assuming gigs of memory at your disposal ?
I'm sure that there is lots of material but is it digital ? Is it recorded in 24 bits 96k ? Probably more modern librarys are better since they will be larger and have more modern recording techniques applied to them.
The new Motu library does look very good for the $300 price tag.
Disco.

well they're not just taking the old miroslav samples and throwing them into the engine. the original recordings are being re-cut. and then they will take advantage of the new engine. patches that have great effects and synth parameters ready to use, and great combinations with the layering of ST2.
so this will be much different than in the past when you would load a miroslav sample into your akai sampler and it played differently for everyone. and not to mention that these samples do have a huge following. there was a lot of excitement about it at namm because many people know the library well and are more comfortable with this option. the samples sound warm. motu's looking really cool too but i didnt hear it. if you're serious about orchestras you can buy both of them and it's around 700 dollars. no sweat. its a great time to be a classical/film composer- even for hiphop or IDM miroslav will be awesome.

The Miroslav sessions were recorded to analogue tape. Tape. When SR acquired the sessions, they acquired the original tapes. The sessions include a lot of articulations and other material that didn't make it to the original sample libraries. Stuff got cut out, and samples were reduced in size (due to memory limitations back then). Philharmonik is different. The tapes have been re-digitised, and there's material in there that no-one's heard (except probably the orchestra and Miroslav Vitous himself).Disco Sucks wrote: isnt Miroslav stuff really old ? I've played the preliminary version that IK was demonstrating at NAMM. The sounds have a beautiful character. The analogue tape is part of it, but the performance plays a big role too. The musicians put a lot of expression into the performances. They played each note like it was music, not like just playing a solitary note for a sampling session.
Forever,
Kim.

but not such a great time to aspire to be one (the heavy competition and lack of demand makes such an endeavor foolhardy if you want to eat every once in a while).Mr. Tunes wrote:its a great time to be a classical/film composer
Also, Philharmonik actually looks really great. Not sure I'm interested, depends on what kind of discounts ST2XL users get and how much SampleTank 2.1 improves on the performance of SampleTank 2, but Miroslav has a great reputation, and it sounds like a really cool presentation of it.

For me the decision between the two resides more with the engine.
I don't jump up and down and get excited about the UVI engine, but I am excited about the ST2 engine. I think it has more power personally, and STRETCH will be very useful to improve in the realism of orchestral samples.
I'm watching this plug with a great deal of interest at this stage.

I once again can not help but feel that this is another situation where the "name" of something is unjustly influencing buying decisions.
For example if you could have 36 suspended cymbals instead of 1 wouldn't you want the 36? If you could have 19 snare drums and 21 Glockenspiel mallets wouldn't you rather have that than 1 choice of each?

These are the things I don't get... Libraries such as mine don't have the "Miroslav" name but are 1000% bigger and better and rarely get mentioned. I guess the point I'm trying to make is check out all the options that are out there.
Here are some demos of mine if you are interested:

The influence is totally up the the buyer. Sure, the Miroslav name will turn a few heads, but no-one is going to just blindly (deafly?) throw down $500 for an orchestral library without considering any other options. If someone doesn't have time to demo everything and just goes with the Miroslav "name" (or Vienna, or Garritan, or EastWest, or Motu, etc) because that's what they trust, then that's their decision. Is it unjust?DCStudios wrote:I once again can not help but feel that this is another situation where the "name" of something is unjustly influencing buying decisions.
Maybe the issue is that the "big names" are backed by (relatively) large companies that can afford more advertising. They also have an established "mind share" (population of people who know about them and trust them). Even so, there will be a place in the market for you if you run your business well.
1000% bigger? I didn't see any 50 gig orchestral library on your website.DCStudios wrote:Libraries such as mine don't have the "Miroslav" name but are 1000% bigger and better and rarely get mentioned.

1000% bigger? I didn't see any 50 gig orchestral library on your website.Seriously though, the size of a library is only an indication of the amount of content. It doesn't say much about the quality. Libraries such as yours are better? Surely that's subjective. At this level, we're not talking about technical limitations (such as 8bit vs 16 bit, or 1MB vs 100MB). Everyone at this party has a library that's big enough so that quality does not have to be compromised. In this case "better" refers to the style of a library, which is more about personal taste.

Then you didn't look hard enough
DC Orchestral Percussion is 48 gigabytes and is $299 ($399 after Feb 15th)
DC Chromatic Percussion is 26 gigabytes and is $299 ($399 after Feb 15th)
DC Solo Woodwinds is 6 gigabytes and is $349
and the Handbells, Harp, and Cello are 4 gigabytes
The total is 84 gigabytes and thats just with whats shipping right now. I have a bunch of stuff in production as well.

Ok thanks. Where is it on your site? From your front page, I clicked on "Libraries", then clicked on each individual product. Only the Solo Woodwinds says anything about size - "Over 8 gigabytes".Donnie wrote: Then you didn't look hard enough![]()
