I am looking for vst plugin that converts audio to midi . I know of some standalone products but I want to use them in a host. Anyone ever try http://www.tazman-audio.co.uk/products/TheExtractor.htm

Unfortinately there are a few but they are not "vst" plugins. The only one I found is "TheExtractor" as mentioned in my original post. I am going to try the demo tonight. I know there was a shareware one out there but I can't seem to find the link. Thanks again
ps, reading the whole post works great

It strikes me there are a few, including free ones, but can't remember most.
Midifier is one I can recall, can be checked out at http://www.knzaudio.com

There are a few free plugs that can use the amplitude of incoming signal to trigger CC values. That's enough for controlling parameters.

Ultram

As for audio-to-note plugs, they all are commercial plugs.

I just tried "midifier" and "the extractor". The extractor is nice becuase you can adjust the buffer to reduce the latency. It can pull off 16th notes rather well. Unfortinately midifier was kind of sloppy. But it has a mute funtion (incoming signal) which is rather nice.
Are there any that are "polyphonic"?
Thanks again...

I've tried the demo for The Extractor, but it didn't work very well for me. I was triggering with an electric guitar, trying very carefully to keep it monophonic, but for me it was just chronically unstable, unable to settle on which octave the note belonged to, and if I recall correctly it was indecisive even with the note. Now I'm sure other people will have better results, but I just couldn't get it working the way I wanted. It was pretty much unplayable.

Blurk, I agree with you. I emailed them about their demo. It sucks! It not only cuts out every 10 seconds but every 30 you have to click "ok" on a reminder that tells you that it will cut out every 10 seconds. A simple beep would be suffice. THe tracking was the best with extractor so far but because of the horrible demo, I'm not going to buy it just yet. Thanks.

Hey rcat, how is lateralsol? THis is the other plug I was trying to remember. If it tracks good I could always use "midi yoke". Anyone familiar with it? Is it stable? Thanks

I'd forgotten about that. Yeah, the reminder box in the demo was really obnoxious. I don't mind putting up with some crippling in a demo, but if you really don't want any customers that's the way to do it.lsd wrote:I emailed them about their demo. It sucks! Maybe I could never get it to track properly because I was too busy getting rid of the reminder box.
