You have to log in to the My Mackie page and replace your old machine ID with the new one (located in the About page). You'll get a new Tracktion key, and you can register it with that.
I think you can only do this 5 times, to limit abuse of the free license.

a new hard drive will almost definitely change your machine no.
you'll need to:
1.Run Tracktion, click the About button and note your new machine no.
2.Go to the Mackie site, sign in to their production/software registration page.
3.Amend the Machine No.s on that page.
4.Download or wait for them to mail you a new unlock file.
5.Unlock as before...

I had the same problem after a format-reinstallation+new hardware but it was very easy to reregister. If you have the e-mail sent by Mackie the first time you installed Tracktion NFR you can go at mymackie.com (or something like that ) and give your new machine number and obtain a new Tracktion keyfile to reregister. However there is a limitaion on how often you can do that. I think also that you could install Tracktion NFR to two different machines so you must be OK without changing any machine number. Just use the second ID.
Hope that was clear and helpful.

When replacing your hard drive, if you use a program like Ghost 8 / Ghost 2003 to do a true sector copy of the drive, most of your plug's and hosts should not have to be re-registered.
I just did this and Tracktion was fine. My Sampletank plugs need to be re-registered, however.
Also, Ghost 9 (actually a rebranded product from Powerquest replacing the old Ghost 8 codebase) does not actually do a sector copy of the hard drive, so you will have to re-register many more plugs going that route.
Fortunately, Symantec is providing both Ghost 9 and Ghost 8 (called Ghost 2003) in one of their current bundles with a nice rebate.
