i have thought a lot on testing ACID 5 instead of building things in Logic 5 wich is what i use now.
in this new project, we are fiddling around a lot with breaks n stuff, and sure, rex'ing and using exs24 is the dope!
ACID on the other hand, have a little other way of looking at loops and breaks n stuff, a little more aimed for that if i understand things right. and as ACID now have midi and can run VSTi's etc..i dont really see why i shouldnt be able to work completely in there.
so thing is, does anyone in here think i should try ACID for this task, or should i just stay in Logic 5 instead?

HI
Something to consider if your into using Recycle is the immenent release of 'AMG ONE' - this is a Recycle sample playback module - a bit like Phatmatik on steroids.
There is of course Phatmatik as well, Devine Machine is a freeky beat slicer/transformer.
All these programs work in Logic PC as I have used them in it.
Flipper.

hi there,
yes, i use them as well.
besides AMG/ONE wich isnt out yet. tho, microdicer does the job pretty great also, even tho i havent bought it yet. Phatmatik 2 and/or Drum nine loks to be the best thing for this subject also.
anyways, i still dont think u can compare them with ACID's way of looking at things, but i may be wrong.

I really have nothing to offer but say your name made me chuckle...

I agree, stick with Logic and use plugins. You'll get far more flexibility than using Acid, plus you don't have to learn a new sequencing environment.

Lance, do you have any other sampler or drum machine to deal with recycled files than the EXS?
I would in ANY case recommend getting one if not.
Until a while ago, I was using the EXS for almost all my REX playback needs, but these days I tend to lean towards different solutions.
MicroDicer is a very good option for quick and dirty results, but unfortunately you can't add another REX file to an existing one (which is what the EXS allows for). The main benefit of MD being that you can preview REX files in song tempo.
Phatmatik is another solution. No way to add further REX files either, but at least it's multitimbral. Too bad the browser is soo shitty.
And of course ReCycle is still good to have. Still the best slicing/trimming options, just because the display is soo much more easy on the good (or not so good) old eyes.
However, in addition to any of those, I couldn't live without DR-008 or Battery anymore.
What I'm doing almost all the time is to export slices (easiest in Phatmatik, you can just drag to any of the two, a bit more action involved in both MD and ReCycle), drag them onto DR-008/Battery and fool around with them. Ultimate freedom. Exchanging samples on the fly, including preview in context, including synth modules (DR-008), including ADSR tweaking of multiple cells or individual ones (Battery), etc etc.
As you might remember, I'm still waiting for the ultimate drum machine, doing all this stuff without changing plugins - but the time is near, I'd say. And until then I can just get away fine with what I have.

if Live 4 is not the best thing for breaks then , then surely software loyalty has gone too far, seriously Live eats breaks for breakfast. those other apps are not even in the same league in this regard, including acid 5. don't believe your friends
try the demo.

Sascha,
thanks a lot for the insite, most appreciated!
guess i'll stick with logic/phatmatik/DR008 as usual then!
as u say, its a lot fo freedom to play with.
just hope the stuff we're waiting for gets out sometime soon, i also have a feeling it will.

I'm also still using Logic 5 on the PC and it's a struggle to get all things going the way I want with the plugin hell in Logic. Phatmatik seems to be the best plugin around to chop loops up and like Sascha said, if your not satisfied with the options you have in Phatmatik itself, you can easily drag and drop the individual slices into Battery (works great here!) or DR-008 (side issue: I find DR-008 confusing and have never tried to drag'n drop into it - would you have to add one of those modules first? And which ones? Would you make some kind of default setup in it by adding multiple single sample players into like 72 cells and then drag onto them?) and mess around with that. What I haven't found yet and that gives me the biggest headache: what to use to simply sync up loops with Logic? I've tried Intakt: No full automation! I love to automate! I'd need at least a few parameters for each loop like volume and filter but you can only automate the whole thing. Tried Kontakt: Great automation works but the thing doesn't sync properly in Logic: You have to retrigger each loop every other bar and if you do that some loops produce a popping click at the beginning (at least here). Tried BombTheBeat: No filters, doesn't tímestretch. Tried this other thing called Beatburner: Syncs great but you have to use an instance for each loop and there's no normal filter only odd waveshapers and bandpass filters (wtf
). By now I'm loading loops into Intakt, bounce the loop and put it on an audiotrack, but that's a quite time consuming technique.
By the way concerning Live: Is there any way how to tell a clip in session view to rest for a measure? Like you have a one bar loop and only want to play it every second bar?

I have it set to "easy sampler when dragging", which usually suits my needs. You can't drag samples onto a predefined module (which is one of my major gripes I have with DR-008).ev0lver wrote:or DR-008 (side issue: I find DR-008 confusing and have never tried to drag'n drop into it - would you have to add one of those modules first? I usually decide before any dragging option what I'd like to do to the loop.
For global tweakings I allways use Battery (no way to tweak multiple cells at once in DR-008), for anything weird (replacing sounds with synth modules, f**king up samples) I usually reach for DR-008.
Btw, Intakt is working fine in Logic for me, just the fact that you can't export or replace samples usually makes me use something else.

wow ev0lver, u really tried it all!
saves me the trouble i guess.
i'm completely with you on everything tho! i'd love to automate things as well, but as of yet, there arent any "all-in-all" solution i guess!
wonder if Kontakt 2 will have anything to offer regarding this matter, and if its even gunna work in Logic 5?

btw, i have been playing some with ShortCircuit lately. its evil! it can import rex2 now if u didnt know that. to bad it aint got midi dragging out of it tho.. but i guess thats coming. the filters are wicked! and the slice feature arent bad at all really. perhaps its something to look into?
the free version is what i use, and its a great freebie i must say!
