Not so much, clicks and pops but I can have a mere two bar loop going and in no time at all audio quits playing in one channel, or just as frequently, both drop out.
I have a audiophile 2496, situated nicely on its' own irq; running win2k in standard pc mode..I tried my asus a7n8x deluxe asio, and it did the same. So, that rules out the problem being the 2496.
I even did a fresh install of w2k, installed cubase and only my commercial plugs. No improvement.
It's really wierd, and I'm at my wits end as I've never heard anyone else with this problem. SX is the only host giving me this problem, FL and the others I have don't. But I love Cubase, and I know this is just a problem on my end, since nobody else seems to have this problem.
After the audio drops out, and I save the song, when Cubase is closing there is a rather loud pop.
:bang:

Have you set performance to background mode? Control Panel>System>advanced>performance options> set optimise performance to background services. Have you set the asio driver up in Cubase? Have you tried the latest drivers?

yes, it's on background services. Yes, I've tried the latest drivers, in fact I've tried all that are available on the m-audio website. yes, I'm running the delta asio; and I've tried various buffer sizes. No one size makes any improvement. also installed service pak 4 for w2k.
thanks for your suggestions, though.

and I've got the latest update for SX, too.

Ok, have tried taking the maudio card out and just tried the onboard sound? Is the on board sound disabled?

Mine is set to Programs, does changing to Background Services help with performance in Cubase in any way?

Oh and sorry bluedad for butting into your thread, i have no idea how to help you :(

Hellbilly - changing it to background services allows stable operation at low latencies around 6ms. You may get clicks n pops otherwise.

onboard sound has been disabled, but yesterday, I enabled it, and tried it using the asus asio drivers. still the same, so I disabled it again. Although I did not pull out the delta card. Think that would make a difference? I wouldn't think so, as long as I chose the asus asio in cubase.

It may be that the card dosnt like the onboard sound and they dont want to work together, even though onboard is off. Thats a longshot and Im grasping at straws now! I take it you dont have anyting else running as well like a virus checker? Is the pc on a network or internet?

When you disable onboard audio, make sure you do it in the BIOS. Also, when trying the onboard sound, you are better off pulling out the main card because it is still working and could interfere with the onboard sound so your tests may not be accurate.

Just make sure when you put it back in that you put it in the same PCI slot or else you will have to install the drivers again, but that might be a good thing to try though, move it to another PCI slot.

:hihi:
grasping at straws myself!
The thing is, with my same set-up, I never had this problem in vst 5.1
I don't have the problem in Orion Plat, FL Studio, Energy XT or Tracktion (ok, I've not messed with tracktion that much.)

yes, I did it that way.

ok, I'll try pulling the card out and giving the onboard another shot. nothing to lose at this point.
thanks for the suggestions, y'all.

Are you absolutely sure the problem is inside the PC, and not further on in the signal chain? Flakey connectors or bad cables for instance...

yes, I can see on the mixer and tranport bar when the audio drops out.

well this morning, I uninstalled the delta drivers and pulled out the card. In the bios enabled the onboard audio asio drivers; booted up Cubase and got audio. I let the loops play for a minute, then I STOPPED the music in order to drink my coffee and ponder upon what this all meant. During this period of thought, I heard a pop. Suspicious, I started playback; no sound.
