And most didn't believe him. What a bunch of cynical nay-sayers! :wink:

I`m happy to to see it,but Yamamha says they`ve been at this for a few yrs now and all they have to show for it is a few pieces of their gear that have been writen for this hard/soft merging.(haven`t seen SX3 yet,but the gear list at this site is sparse)

So i guess this "studio connections" software incorporated into SX3/nuendo3 and so forth,is not only responsible for the gear editing controller,but also the function that sees and ajusts the incoming latency from a synth or effects processor.

The former can be had as a plugable editor such as "midi quest".The later I can`t wait for!Using an outboard effects processor with a host in/out is the biggest pain in the ass in my studio!It`s almost,if not impossible to use.Unless your mastering through it.

Are you talking about the MIDI Devices part of SX3? I have SX3 but haven't tried using that yet. From reviews I've seen, it's still a bit bug ridden. The MIDI Device maps that come with SX3 is fairly limited, if my one look at them is remembered correctly.

I believe the"studio connections" part of version3 is something different from just the device maps.(I have the device maps of all my hardware in nuendo2 now.Are working just fine)
It seems to be how they will compensate for the latency created by the a/d d/a convertions when recording/monitoring audio from that hardware into SX3.

"Does anyone have any experience with this feature yet?"

I saw it demonstrated by a Yamaha sales guy (surprisingly at an AMD showcase). It looks really sweet. Move a fader on the 01X, it moves in the Studio Connections window. Move a fader in the Studio Connections windows, it moves on the 01X. Makes the 01X a really nice control surface and audio interface for SX3 (that is, if you have mLAN). Run your VSTis through the 01X hardware effects, run your hardware synths through 01X effects in route to their mixer channel in SX, all kinds of cool stuff. The 01V96 supports this too and that thing is dreamy...

This sounds very encoraging.
I`m also wondering how they will handle the audio input latency from the hardware effects processor.(Like say you have a hardware reverb...your sending a vsti`s audio out to this reverb...then back in the host and to your ears as you hear it.)
This all takes time in the digital converting.
Are they,and how will they compensate for this matter.
I just can`t see how this won`t be possible while playing live or live monitoring through the hardware processor without effecting the overall keyboard to sound latency.

I`m wondering if you will only be able to use digitally interfaced hardware.
So far it seems to be yamaha`s digital mixers w/internal effects!

For nuendo3 at the steinberg site,this feature is decribed;
External FX plug-ins: Nuendo 3 offers direct integration of external hardware effects processors into the VST audio mixer, allowing you to use your favorite outboard gear just like plug-ins – including delay compensation
The "studio connections" is decribed;
Integration of Studio Connections protocol developed with Yamaha allows for total recall of supported external devices such as mixers, audio interfaces or effect processors

It already works with Motif ES keyboards (with mLAN) as well.
