The forum at tape op is kind of cool. Very different from KVR. There are many lo-fi, tube loving, analog types there, but there are lots of die-hard computer artists as well. Sometimes they fight, and it can be as educational as it is amusing.
The great thing about it is the DIY ethos: lots of projects for those who can read schematics, and interviews with all kinds of low budget garage musicians as well as with major music industry figures.

www.synthzone.com is a link site that has links to all things synth, even music theory.
Hope this helps. As far as plugins go this is the best site of all I think. My favorite music site overall.
