After a several week wait, my Schecter Blackjack C-7 7-string guitar arrived last night.

24 hours later, and I am in absolute love with this guitar! I've had many guitars in the past, but I've never been impressed as much as I have been with this guitar... especially when you factor in the price... the value for money is insane...

- 7-string extended scale (26.5")
- neck-thru-body (sustain for days)
- Seymour Duncan JB and '59 pickups
- Setup in California (the action was perfect when it arrived)
- $549

Thanks Meffy! Yeah... I know 7-strings are on the decline... but since I'm only using it for recording, the extra wide neck doesn't bother me in the heat of battle (it would be much harder for me to cope with if I was standing up - on stage).

The sustain is incredible! It's the first neck thru I've had (I've had 5 bolt-on neck guitars), and I don't know if it's that or also the long scale, but notes ring out forever.

The pickups sound decent. They're a bit more toned down than the DiMarzio Evolutions I had in my Ibanez, but that may not be a bad thing. I won't be able to decide on the pickups until I see how it sounds in a mix... but either way, they sound pretty decent.

Keep an eye on the Music Cafe, I'm sure I'll have a tune featuring the guitar posted in the next couple of weeks.

You're way over my head -- I admire guitars, but don't understand the finer points. Will definitely try to give a listen when you post a sample of its delights. :-)

I'm glad for yah :D , but how do you buy a guitar mail order? My half brother does this too, every guitar I own I either built or chose me...
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Well, I got it at a Guitar Center, but they had to special order it from Schecter. The guy I worked with at GC was kind of a jerk, so I actually sort of wish I would have just ordered it from MusiciansFriend. Either way the guitar is setup by Schecter in California before shipping, so whether you buy at at local shop or from the 'net it arrives with perfect action (and near perfect tuning).

For some reason at EVERY guitar center I've ever been to, the guitar folks are dicks, yet the DJ/lighting/pro sound guys are really nice, when it was the exact opposite at Mars. :?:

You know it's the same company .... right?

:?:

I miss MARS, they had everything. Everything from an isolated acoustic guitar room, to school band instruments, to libraries of sheet music.

I have noticed the perception that Chase points out. The pro sound guys at my local GC are very nice. Sometimes it makes me feel guilty walking in there and trying every mic they have with the pre-intent of ordering online. Ah, fucit, it's GC. :)

It wasn't the company that were jerks, it was just the one guy at GC that I really didn't want to give my money (commission) to. Most of the guys at my local GC are actually very nice guys, but when I mentioned custom ordering a guitar, they stuck me with the assistant manager aka big-time jerk. Most of the other guitar guys are nice, and the pro audio guys there are very cool. Overall, much nicer than the Sam Ash which is about 2 blocks down the road.

Anyhow, have I mentioned how much I LOVE this guitar!?!? :P :D

I was looking at a guitar at GC the other day, and was half tempted to purchase it, so I asked teh guy what kind of a deal he would give me, and he actually had the gall to say "Since its the last day of the month(it was jan 31) I can give it to you for this price, but its *only* coz its the last day of the month". At that point I had trouble containing the laughter, and said, hmmm, well since its the last day of the month I will pass.

"Well, I don't actually like you or care about you... but I'm desperate to reach a breakpoint on my commission curve by month's end." Nice sales technique there. IMO you were right to pass this "deal" up even if just to give proper recognition to a poor psychological approach.
