What is the oldest song containing the amen break that you know of (besides the original of coarse)?

"Plug - Drum n Bass for Papa" was made in 1995, but I know that Dj Hype used it before that.

I'm just curious to see who can find the oldest Amen track.

LTJ can also be accredited for bringing the Amen breakbeat to the scene. His release of "Music" contained a sample from a gospel instrumental, The Winstons' "Amen Brother," a perfect combination to go with LTJ's taste for melodic strings and keyboards. That breakbeat found on "Music," labeled "Amens," became the breakbeat of choice for every producer, as the term has now come to signify any type of breakbeat contained in a drum and bass track.

Used on Straight Outta Compton wasn't it? That's 1989/

That funny I was thinking about this just yesterday.

Now I know it goes back as far NWA's 'Straight Out Of Compton'. So I guess it down to who can now name a tune before that.

If we're talking dance music, there must've been some big beat track that used it before the dnb guys.

Post

ltj's music single was in 1993

its not even the first speeded up version of amen - jungle had been going for a long time before then

A bit of googling turned up King of the Beats by Mantronix, c. 1988.

Google also tells me that Bukem first used it in 91 on Demons Theme. Discuss.

I know it was used in Hip Hop before DnB. Can anyone find an amen track made before "Strait Outta Compton"?

I think that might've been the one i was thinking of. Its in my rough guide to breakbeat music, but that is buried in a box with about 10,000,000 other books.

I wonder if the break is in one of the lessons by Double D & Steinski? I dont have these on my computer anymore (they are on my - busted - MP3 player) so I cant check, but I would hazard a guess that it is in there on one of the three tracks
