Thats a bit of a bugger - mail-in only? And why the completely US-centric address format?

Cakewalk doesn't handle their own distribution outside of the US. As you may know, they don't even sell to most of the world except through their distributors. It's a brick & mortar thing....

Exactly. Are those distributors handling this for non-US purchasers?

well, thanks for the heads up on this upgrade deal....just picked up the last p5 on the shelf at the local guitar center for $160! looking forward to playing with it (i will be in about 10 minutes) and looking forward to the upgrade! i know it's not really a free upgrade..i just paid $160......but it still kind of FEELS free!
i'd rather have a mullet than a comb-over.
fortunately, i have neither.

I have been getting emails from Cakewallk offerring some kind of discout. I haven't bothered checking out the demo, so I have no idea if would ever use it being fully loaded with FLS, Live, eXT and Sonar 4 Is anyone here actually using P5? It doesn't seem to be very popular on KVR.

Post

i use it daily, (popularity of me and P5 on kvr aside) as my main host -- though I do use FL5 and energyXT as wrapped vst within P5.

it's very good/clean at working with midi notes in patterns and track creation
the workflow just makes sense to me and suits what i do. i can work very fast and since i have limited free time and no patience, it's a good fit.

I have noticed that a lot of people once habituated to another host model (like FLS or Sonar) have a bitch of a time adapting to the (imo) simpler model of P5.
I'm the same way once adpated to P5 I find Sonar's piano roll a mess of special keys and special status It's closest to FL5 in some ways, but without the editing quirks and a one track/one synth model.

from the sounds of it a lot of kvr'ers had a rough time with v1.0. and I think the demo is still back at 1.0

so v2 has an uphill conversion battle esp. in UK and Europe, but Cakewalk seems very committed to making a run with this coming release. The same sort of Cakewalk focus on workflow optimizations and user requests that went with Sonar 3 to 4 are similar to the focus of P5 1.5 to 2.

Guess we'll find out soon.
There are some video tutorials on the www.project5.com website that cover some of the basic and 1.5 features. They do a pretty good job of providing a feel for it without having to even download the demo.

The nice thing about P5 is that it is currently very good for loop based composition. It's very easy and fast to make midi clips and copy, stretch, duplicate, etc them across your arrangement. The same for audio clips except you cannot record them. It has some nice synths but a lot of folks here are already loaded with vsti so that isn't so important for them. It is also quite stable. For someone just starting out P5 is fantastic. For yourself, P5 would be a nice compliment to Sonar. However you already have FLStudio so I doubt anyone really needs both. P5 is also a nice compliment to Live (I have both). I also have ext and don't find it that usefull as a host/sequencer. My opinion is that P5 is a better product that FLstudio but that doesn't warrant owning both.

i just installed my newly purchased p5 version 1.0. crashes the pc (blue screen) when you close the application, although it works ok while running. updated to version 1.5. same thing. opened it in o-plat as a rewire....guest?...and it runs ok, except when you close it, o-plat still thinks it's open and won't close, because rewire devices must be closed first. i'm having a similar problem with acid pro 5.0, and it seems that the problem there is also a rewire issue. new pc, winxp sp2. oh well, i'll get the freebie upgrade and will get it hashed out....the instruments that come with, in my opinion, are worth the the price i paid for the package, as long as they will open in o-plat, which is not the case right now. (sigh). we will see, won't we.

I am really liking P5. It is the first software sequencer I have given a serious attempt at using. I like it quite a bit.

uncadave, that's weird stuff. blue screen usually means a hardware issue (I think). ie an audio driver causing problems with a soundcard. what kind of soundcard and driver are you using? With my audiocard (Echo Mia) I can choose from either the asio driver or wdm (as well as directsound or mme, but these are never used). I have problems using the wdm driver with higher latencies, it causes playback problems. That is just an example of how a particular driver can cause issues. Another example is that my work computer gets blue screens sometimes and it's always when I am playing mp3s in itunes or winamp.
