So I have been working on a dark ambient song that I'm pretty much done with. The mix is at 24 bit 48 kHz, its a little heavy in the eq range of 86-170 hz. Basically sounds like it needs a little sweetening but every time I run it through some of the waves plug ins it still sounds a little muddy or certain frequencies will cut out or I'll get it to sound good on my monitors (krk v4) but once it gets to CD after dithering not so good on a stereo or Discman. I'm not really looking for it to sound overly pro, but better then what I have so far as the basic goal is to turn it in an MP3 and post it on line.
Any suggestion on what I should run it through and in what order? I've been looking for tutorials on multi-band compressors but not too much has been really helpful so if any one knows any that would be great.
I'm new here so any help would be great.
Thanks

I use EQ > Compressor.
Classic EQ
LPGEQ2
C3Multiband Compressor
However, I use these on individual tracks. I use Tracktion's Final Mix to run the whole thing through.
