How Damned Good is MINIHOST!?!

What a great concept, I can't believe I haven't looked at this before now. It turns any VST plugin into a stand-alone that you can play from your computer keyboard or via your controller. The Preset Manager is abso-f**king-lutely awesome. Whether you make your own or not, it allows you to put all your favourite patches into one bank with incredible efficiency. The MIDI tools are handy and fun.
For trying out synths or making patches [or just organising the ones you already have], this is the best $15 you will ever donate. Seriously.

It has an arpeggiator, a chord maker and step sequencer for goofing around with, the UI changes colour to match the loaded VSTi - good for making a stand-alone look the part. Like SAVIhost, you can simply rename the .exe file to the name of your synth and it becomes a stand-alone for that synth.

It's preset handling is the best. For making new banks out of fxp's it's indispensable. But for playing VSTi's I've gone back to Savihost at the moment as it seems to handle midi better for most synths (with the exeption of Kubik).

forgive my ingnorance but after you re-manage your presets for a paticular vsti, lets say trilogy, or absynth or whatever, how do you keep your newly mangaged list when using the vsti in your standard host, or can you only do this in minihost?

You just save it as a .fxb bank and load it into the synth in whatever host you use. Its so f**king easy it oughta be illegal.

For most VSTi's you'd just save a FXB and load it into your synth. However Absynth and possibly Trilogy have their own preset formats I think so you wouldn't be able to alter them.stale bread wrote:forgive my ingnorance but after you re-manage your presets for a paticular vsti, lets say trilogy, or absynth or whatever, how do you keep your newly mangaged list when using the vsti in your standard host, or can you only do this in minihost?

Savihost is great if you mainly want a simple ligtweight standalone but don't need the extra bells and whistles - I find it more reliable at the moment on my system. I tend to use Minihost if I want the extra's like to make or manage preset banks. If the midi was more stable I would probably go back to Minihost though as I prefer it's patch handling (unless Savihost developed better patch handling along the same lines)stale bread wrote:thanks much for that, and this savihost is not up to par or is it?
