hi,
I`m really new here and you can help me.
i am searching for a new host on pc.
i`m used to PT HD on mac, but don`t like the windows version. and i want to use a pc.
i don`t use any midi.
i just record, edit and mix. i need a lot of audio tracks, not only 32 like PT le.
I tried samplitude and really liked it, but the workflow in PT is better to me.
so any suggestions what`s the best host for me?
I don`t mind reputation, so it could be free if it works for me.

Try Audition.

I think, regarding audio work, Samplitude would be your best bet, probably with Nuendo following.

I'll second the Rabbit (our ProTools connaisseur): try Adobe Audition. Done a few audio-only (no midi) projects in its predecessor CoolEditPro and its a breeze to work with.
Edit: and a warm welcome to KVR!!

Is there any intentional significance to the spelling of "alter-naives" in the thread title?

I never had any good luck with nTrack, but have not tried it in a while. It might be more stable these days. Honestly, if you don't like or don't want to spend the money for Audition, I would give Tracktion a hard look. I've been using Tracktion and Audition together for a while now and it turned out to be a great combo. I recently decided to purchase Samplitude 8 and that's the only reason I'm not using Tracktion anymore. I still recommend it highly for most things.

Hmm, my ProTools is stable on both platforms. Of course, I could be using different features than you in different ways.
I'm still a Tracktion guy, but PT is there when I need it.

What? no CUBASE SX? Same as Nuendo, $400 less, minus a couple of Surround features. It can do anything PT can, I believe (the hardware would be the biggest difference).
