Is the Minimonsta as good as Access Virus?

IMO 'Minimonsta' is probably the best sounding VSTi around at the moment..

Out of the people whove tried the demo... who has got a Virus??? In all honesty how does the sound compare..

From a performance point of view its still more practical to own a Virus (as the mini is killing my 3.06 P4 CPU) but im just talking about pure sound quality here...

Post

my dog looks like my cat. perhaps it's infected with a virus :help:

well ultra analog and minimonsta are the best soft-synths which are out at the moment if you go for the virus like analog sound.

Post

Minimonsta actually sounds way better than the virus and will get you way more sounds...in fact it can create every sound the Virus can and do it better  .

What? This was a joke thread right... :P

In seriousness, (if you are being serious) they're completely different monsters entirely and comparing the two would be moot. Does Minimonsta sound good? Yeah. Does a Virus? Yup. Do they sound similar? Nope. Can one replace the other? Depends on who's using them and how.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

yeah I am being serious...

I know fully well that they are different synths, IMO the Virus has more features & sound possabilities than the Mini, but Im talking from a general tone point of view here.. to me the mini is very smooth sounding & is the closest to analogue ive heard so far (& yeah the Ultra Analogue is really good as well)... ive never actually used a Virus.. so I dont know how they compare really (just heard the low res demos on the Access site)

just thought the mini was a big step up in the quest for analogue sounding software synths thats all...

Post

a bit tought to compare, but here are some nice virus sounds.

i guess some of these uses the moog filter in os 6.5, and that would be a bit fairer to compare with the minimonsta i suppose (which kicks ass btw!)

ed: this soundset also uses the moog filter on some patches apparantly, a bit more trancey stuff but nice: http://www.soundwizard.de/Sounds/www.ve ... chleis.mp3

u can find some more on this page: http://www.vengeance-sound.com/eng/inde ... xHOME.html

The Virus is a great synth. I have the hardware Virus C and a Poco Virus B. It just has soooo many presets that every analog synth sound imaginable is catered for by the presets alone. You won't be disappointed by it, believe me. Now that the TI is available there is nothing in hardware that can touch it as far as analog emu's are concerned. The sound of the Virus is awesome. Demo it at your local music store to get a real feel for it. Mp3's can never do it justice.

Minimonsta is a lovely synth. Well worth the money. I think it's unfair to compare it with a Virus. The Virus can do so much more soundwise. The quality of sound is good in both synths. Two wonderful synths IMO.

I think the real question is do you prefer a real Virus to a real MINI.

Could you physically make decent multi samples (mutli notes, not velocities) and would you be prepared to, so i could make a few banks for Orions Sampler. ?

Post

I really dont think either make a good host IMO.

HI

IMO this is a less than straight foward question because to run the Vius you need specific hardware - which means you are talking about a substantial price difference.

I have a Poco/Virus combination and I can run multiple instances at no cost to my computers CPU, this in itself makes a comparisson difficult - IE the Virus will not impact on resources, how can you compare this to the Moog EMU that will eat your CPU for breakfast?

The Virus will cost you 2-5 times more than the Moog.

IMO the Virus has a unique sound that I like above all else that I have heard or own - I also like a bunch of other synths - but the Moog can not hope to create the sounds that the Virus is capable of due to the more advanced and flexable sound sculpturing capabilities of the Virus.

PS - the 'does it sound analogue' thing does nothing for me and I can't understand why people are concerned by it?

Blimey it is merely a synthetic approach to making a noise, as is all electronic sound - why not concern yourself with 'does the sound please me'?

Oh my God, someone had to make it.

the Virus might cost you more than the mini, but it looks like to get anything like decent performance at the monent you would need to run it on its own dedicated PC (and a faster one than I have got at that)...so that would really bump the price up..

I like analogue synths & I like digital synths... but to me the mini has very smooth sounding oscilators + the filter is very very good as well... synths dont have to sound 'analogue' like you say, they just have to sound good... but as I say if you do want the analogue sound in software (which I do) then surely you would be asking the qusetion, does it sound analogue?

Post

No!
