Another dance track question: white noise filter sweeps?

Hi-
I hear lots of cool "rushing air" sounds in dance tracks, often times they build up - for drama.
So is the best way to do this to use white noise and then automate the filter?
I've been playing around with the Vanguard synth and am getting pretty good results, though not exactly what I want.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

This is easiest to do with a synth that can generate white noise.
Just set an Osc to white noise and make it sweep via the Filter envelope.

Play back the sweep twice. One assigned to right and one to left channel. This gives a huge stereo effect.
(This doesn't work with a sample or sample-based synths. When synthesized, the noise signal is completely different each time and thus create a broad stereo image)

Or you could just use a jet engine sample and automate a filter sweep.

Some interesting ways to add to the steps mentioned to add some frequency modulation options (FM) to add a metallic type noise with it. Add a flanger to make those jet flyby sounds.
Cheers

Just throw on some chorus instead. That's a lot simpler, and it will work with a sample.kybernaut wrote:Play back the sweep twice. One assigned to right and one to left channel. This gives a huge stereo effect.

Try Xoxos' specialized "Whoosh" synth:

The VCS5 or AKS clones on this site are useful for white noise:cs7 wrote:
Any recommendations of a good place to find jet engine samples? Probably just do a google search?

One of them actually has a "jet flyby" preset, I forgot which one though.

What better place to find jet engine sounds than an airplane manufacturer?

(Actually, these are quite poor quality mp3 recordings, but one of them might be useful)
