Hello
Having so many problem with QLSO Platinum, I just got Jam Pack 4 "Symphony Orchestra", it is FABULOUS for 99 $
You have a few less articulations, and a few "Bass" instrument are missing (clarinet bass, contra basson, Wagnen tuben, bass trombone) but it is fast, simple to use, well documented and RELAYABLE
If you add a Sound Designer reverb with a "big hall" on the main out of Logic you have the QLSO big sound
If you are interested I can do a complete study of the pro and cons, write to me at blanc.cyril@wanadoo.fr
Best

Ah right. A set of $99 Garageband instruments has 'a few less' articulations than a 19-DVD, 65Gb, $4400 library. Strange that.
What problems were you having, precisely?

A few articulation only !!
I have a G5 2X2 + 3.5 GB 2 satz of 160+250gb + a raid 0 a RocketRaid card and 6 raptor (350 MB/S)
- I have Malloc errors that leads to crashes
- I get pops and clicks
- I get hole in the song if I bounce on my system disk
- I have noticed that the notes on a same program does not have the same velocity curve, some are softer some are louder at an equivalent velocity.
- I have also experienced double attack on a half note of a trumpet
- key switched program are not homogeneous
- Manual : if John Philpit was not there we could had wait a long time to have a decent manual, many thanks to him. When you think I have request to E/W a documentation of the mapping of the percussions for more than a year ; this is non professional ; Hopefully now it is in John's manual.
- I have lost hours of work, now I soon I have done an edit I save (every 5 minutes)
- Each time I load my music templates it takes 7.40 minutes, with JaM Pack 4 i have more instruments and it takes 1 minute (same environment with VSL is 1.30 mn)
The icing on the cake is than I been form E/W forum for this message :

Yes, I had a nightmare with Gold, but in the end the results were worth the trouble. I'd need a top-of-the-range PC to run gold smoothly, yet alone Platinum.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

No one's going to ban you for stating your opinion. This isn't that kind of website.cbhr wrote: I do not want to be banned for telling all the truth !

whyterabbit, he gets that "only a few less articulations" is hard to believe - that's why he's commenting on it on this forum
I'm glad to hear that there's such an inexpensive alternative. What format does the Jam Pack come in? Any audio demos?

Well, unless you got a Mac, and Garageband or Logic 7, you'll be disappointed...Rellik wrote:whyterabbit, he gets that "only a few less articulations" is hard to believe - that's why he's commenting on it on this forum

From Apple's literature, it sounds like 2000 loops and over 30 sampler instruments. Doesn't really sound like a EWQLSO competitor to me. But then again, I'm not the orch type...

The Jam pack is delivered in EXS24 format, so it can be used , of course by Logic anf Garage band but also by the other sampler reader that reads the EXS24.kovacs wrote:mjones4th wrote:Well, unless you got a Mac, and Garageband or Logic 7, you'll be disappointed...

I dont know if you can convert EXS24 to AKAI with the various converter availlable in the market !
JP4 uses key switches with CC#4, this is much better than using note that are poluating your score.
The expression is modulated by CC#11, good idea !
Concerning articulations ; we will speak in detail later in the week, again for the price you pay you GET A LOT !
The other questions is do we need XXX articulations for each instrument.
My problem is to make a document with writing, part of the manual, screen hard copy and pieces of music, is it possible to post it there ?
I doubt, this is why I have ask you to send me your name if you where interested

Disregard my comment about Soundtrack. It does not support MIDI controllers...
