Is there any difference in the functionality of the plugins for SampleTank 2 LE, L and XL, or is it just the number of included sounds?
I have Sonik Synth 2 and have LE coming with a Capsule. Will LE give me full functionality with my SS2 sounds, as well as converted EXS-24, SampleCell, Akai etc. sounds I already have?

L and XL both have full functionality. The only difference between these two is that XL comes with more sounds. Here are listings of the respective sounds that come with each:

LE is a lite version of the full engine. Some of its limitations include but are not limited to the following:
--ability to program only 2 of the 5 effects available for any given patch;
--can only use one instance at a time;
--cannot import other sample formats such as akai.
So while SS2 also can't import other sample formats, it is not as limited in other respects as LE is.
I guess my only advice is to see how you like LE when you get your capsule, and if you find it limiting, or you simply want the sounds included with L or XL, follow the upgrade path to L or XL. It's a really good deal to upgrade now because for the next month or so you get Amplitube 1 free with an upgrade to L or XL:
