What is the best host for computers that have no mouse?

As usual, I'm searching for something...

All hosts on the market seem to be rather controlled by the mouse exclusively. On laptops that means that you have to work with a touchpad or any other control that turns out to be a hassle when doing MIDI editing and other things that depend on precision. IF you don't want to keep any other things (like a trackball) with you.

Problem is, I'm producing songs that need complex piano roll editing sometimes and it's very annoying with the touchpad, so I'd need something more keyboard-based.
Trackers seem to be the answer, but they all seem to have a pattern-based approach that is very restrictive and inflexible for complex drum arrangements.
There's no rant intended here, but I'd need a host that is a bit less mouse-focussed.

Anyone? :?:

Instead of changing a host: have you consdered using a virtual MIDI keyboard (like trollo or quickeys) and step recording the pattern?

I wouldn't be surprised, if you spent enough time with the Keyboard commands and the Macros, if you could run Cubase SX without a mouse, its shortcut support is asbsurdly extensive.

Cubase SX3 has customisable key commands for many tasks but many of them are assigned by default to the number pad which laptops don't have easy access to. For MIDI editing it should be possible to move around the piano roll with the arrow keys and modifiers.

It's definitely not ideal, and you may find some tasks that don't even have an assignable key command.
