The Spirit of the Radio

Does anyone here ever listen to the radio anymore? Aside from MPR (Minnesota Public Radio) and the occasional football game if I'm in the car, I realized that I never listen to music on the radio.
Or at least I didn't, until this week. There's a new radio station in town that not only plays good music, it plays music from many genres, and in addition to over-the-air, it also streams the broadcast online. The station is 89.3 The Current, which, not all that surprisingly, is a public radio station. This station has renewed my faith in radio.

I listen to radio all the time when I'm driving. I wouldn't necessarily call any of the 5 stations I listen to good, but usually I can find something that I don't mind listening to.

Your topic title caught my eye, because the Rush song "Spirit of Radio" was written about an alternative radio station, CFNY 102.1, from Brampton, Ontario thatI have listened to since I was a teenager. Great memories discovering new wave music in the 80's when everyone else was listening to the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt.

The Edge is probably the only 'major' radio station worth listening to in the Toronto area...dmf wrote:Your topic title caught my eye, because the Rush song "Spirit of Radio" was written about an alternative radio station, CFNY 102.1, from Brampton, Ontario thatI have listened to since I was a teenager. 102.1 renewed my faith in the radio back in the 90's. I used to live and die by the 'retro nooner' when I was on my lunch break at work.

So cool dmf. Concerning Rush (one of the greatest prog rock bands in Rock-n-Roll history). I'm from Cleveland, Ohio where Rush got their start on the Mercury record label and promo from WMMS 100.7 'Home of the Buzzard'. They're a personal fave of mine. I still crank on Spirit Of Radio now and then myself. Rush was the first act I ever saw. I caught the Signals tour about 3,000 years ago.ZZ wrote:So cool dmf. Concerning Rush (one of the greatest prog rock bands in Rock-n-Roll history). I hate to say, I only listen to AM740 in Toronto nowadays.
"Canada's #1 radio station..... For people 60 and over"
But they play some great old gems that I enjoy, and some pretty weird freaky tunes on their Scottish and British shows on sundays.
I think communtity radio is great for the city still. CKLN, CIUT and all that... But last I listened to CFNY, it was more repetitive than AM740 I found, and Q107 - might as well just put on the soundtrack to Easy Rider and make my own station.
Oh, here comes Les Paul on the phone talking about his days with the axe again... I'm serious, one can learn alot from AM740.

Oh, so I'm a loser when you just admitted it was your first concert??? Rush is one of those groups that live on dude. Nothing to be ashamed of. They're still tits in my book. Tell Neil Peart he's a loser. Probably get whacked with a drum stick. Heh.Sicklecell666 wrote:Rush was the first act I ever saw. I caught the Signals tour about 3,000 years ago.ZZ wrote:So cool dmf.
