does it have to Click when turning bypass on/off?

I've never heard clicks when switching sends on/off, but any insert FX that introduces latency has the potential to click. Is it inserts that are clicking, or sends?

it's inserts yes! havent tried this on sends actually, might give it a go. the efx i've tried this with dont have any latency tho.. as far as i know, there is always clicks during bypassing on/off, strange that you havent encountered it?
as said, would be great finding a way around it.

I have encountered it on some plugins...but only as inserts. And they only click for me when I turn them on/off while actual audio is playing. The way around that is to fine edit the automation so that you only turn on/off the insert FX when there is a gap in the audio. Quite easy to do in Cubase, but not sure about other hosts?
Another way would be to copy to a 2nd channel, so that you have one playing without the clicky insertFX, and the identical other with the FX switched on, but delete the audio bits that you don't want the FX on and vice versa - that way, no need to turn on and off the insert.
I'm sure alot depends on the host itself...don't forget that an insert FX actally interrupts the audio path, whereas a send simply receives the audio via a parallel circuit. I suspect some FX will always click when switched off as an insert. And most things you do with insert FX can be done via some workaround or other.

ah yes, ure so right. btw, its not the insert itself that clicks, its just when i turn them on/off by bypassing during play that they click.
what i want to do tho, is this:
controlling different efx on/off on a VSTi with my midi controller. so, by turning the knobs on my BCR i want to be able to turn whatever efx i want on/off. i guess i could do this with send tho? havent tried it yet tbh.
