I was surprised to see the sonic refill appears to
be all or predominantly mono samples. I found this to be quite a disappointing--but also puzzling. Why go thru all the the trouble of publishing and promoting a sound set and then ship mono?? I am also now seeing the melloT refill is mono as well, although synth3 appears to be stereo.
Not good.

I don't like misinformation being spread about our products so I will try to clear this one up quickly. Sonic Refills do not have "all mono samples" and the sounds that are mono are that way naturally at the source most of the time and not done as some kind of compromise that should disappoint anyone. So, I will go over some of the sounds and the expectatins one should have compared to what the source instruments are:lucille wrote:I was surprised to see the sonic refill appears to

Not good.
1. The Sonic Refills have sounds that are stereo and mono depending a lot on what the source instrument was.
2. Mellotrons are ALL mono from the original source unless processed with a stereo reverb or chorus. The original 3 track tron machines had three mono sounds per tape bank.
3. Many electric guitars and basses are also mono at the source.
4. Many electric pianos are mono at the source.
5. Acoustic pianos are recorded stereo. You will not find an acoustic piano in mono in the sonic refills.
6. Solo orchestral instruments are sometimes mono and sometimes stereo. It depends on how much ambience it has in the original usually.
7. Ensembles- most are stereo.
8. Synths- vary between mono and stereo depending on the source. Indcidentally, a lot of analog synths like say the Minimoog or Arps were mono. When a synth had something like a stero chorus such as Jupiters and Junos we've sampled them in stereo to preserve that character.
Just to be clear, the Sonic Refills have great quality sounds and there have been no compromises made on them vs. our other libraries that have cost up to 6 times as much.
