It seems like vocoders are one of selling features of many synths, hardware and soft, but with the exception of the now infamous Cher song, I haven't heard one used since the 80's.(Styx and Alan Parsons, for example) :?: Am I missing something?

The "Cher sound" doesn't even use a vocoder. That effect is just extreme pitch-correction.

I use vocoders.

I'm actually looking to get a decent VST. Microsoft Sam is free but really he's no Rod Stewart!

It strikes me more people use vocoders these days for instruments etc. They have always been a rather seasonal effect. Probably because they are rather obvious.

This track has one "After Hours" at http://benedict.presetbank.net

I use em now and again to add a bit of a vocal harmony style effect, very useful if you do it subtly, and not in some awful 70s prog rock way. :hihi:
