#1) X-Buz has a new product about to launch! BuzMaxi 3? http://www.x-buz.com *WOW*
#2) But this thread is meant for the appreciation of the X-Buz Vintage Maxi mastering compressor/limiter. He had a beta version of this plugin on his site and it was, in my opinion, a fantastic plugin. By no means was it "transparent", really... It has a very unique sound.
It has a built in LO-CUT which is nice. The plugin will quickly munge up your mix at high settings, so it works best IMHO at lower settings... There is an option for "deep processing". This appears to me to be sort of a hotkey for "more compression" rather than just limiting?
Anyhow, I've had really good results with this. It's almost the opposite of Waves L1/L2... Those are meant to be very transparent, but this one has had the most interesting effect:
It seems to really thicken up the sound and with DEEP PROCESSING pushed in, it gets really punchy in the midrange. Oddly enough though, looking at the spectrum it caused a very slight, gentle slope upward in frequencies? So it's not "more bass" but it sure feels like it. (or does it just look that way because the bass frequencies are more compressed?) What does "DEEP PROCESSING" do, exactly?
Does this plugin have a "smearing" effect? It just sounds really nice, to my ears, when used gently. I really love the plugin and I hope he finishes it. It's one I would pay for.
Has anyone else admired this plugin as I have? Do you use it on anything other than final mixes? Have you tried it on vocals or anything like that? Does anyone have more details on its inner workings so I can understand beyond with just my ears what it is doing?

Yes, BuzMaxi is nice, and I love the GranComp3 aside from the dark #s that are hard to read ------- but it looks like BuzMaxi 3 is coming out TOMORROW!!! I am so excited about this.

buzmaxi 2 was great, and buzmaxi3 rocks alot, with its visualization options !! it's greatly transparent and efficient, without noticeable latency nor clicking...
i tried buz vintage maxi, and the beat is mazing !!!
with the "deep processing" on, it is huge !
the sound is tighter than the others, not that much trnasparent, but very dynamic and sharp, electric-sounding !
I like it a lot.
who knows what "deep processing" does, concretely ?
and the "lo-cut", at what frequency does it apply ? under 20hz ? 75 hz ?

Yeah, the BuzzRoom stuff in general is enough to seduce me away from the the Apollonian purity of the Kjaerhus Classic series (i.e., the Light Side...). The BuzzRoom plugs don't have that "instant Alan Parsons" vibe, but I often find them to have warmer, richer, softer tone colors -- at least, the way I use them with certain material. YMM most certainly V! They also seem very abusable.
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

BuzMaxi is almost my most-favoured limiter nowadays...it's even taken over from tls Maximiser!
It'll be good to hear the new BuzMaxi plugin...the last one was plenty good enough as is.
It's a known trick...if you actually roll of the deep bottom end, you can push loudness even harder. Simply because of the energy involved in bass frequencies and the sensitivity of comps/limiters to low frequencies, if you reduce the low end, you can get a very loud squished sound. Too many people are obsessed with getting the most powerful, boosted basses they can. If they rolled it off, their mixes can actually have a more powerful sounding bass by having less deep bass. Not that I necessarily advocate that approach, but it can work well.It seems to really thicken up the sound and with DEEP PROCESSING pushed in, it gets really punchy in the midrange. Oddly enough though, looking at the spectrum it caused a very slight, gentle slope upward in frequencies? So it's not "more bass" but it sure feels like it. i was wandering why does VintageMaxi is only a beta version ? : it works perfectly !
we can feel lucky to have such a good plugin for free, because the v1 release will be shareware only !
what can we add to hat plugin to make it v1 ?? it is stable, low-cpu, has no latency, is greatly efficient... what improvment are possible ?
the freeware comp bundle is really good too, but there are so many compressor, i don't often know which one to use !

tls maximiser is great, but has too much latency to be used live. e-phonic has a good maximiser/comp/limiter, and tbt had a tube limiter emulation which rocks : tubelimit. it colors the sound a lot, but it is really great work !it's even taken over from tls Maximiser
