For me, it's always been the Prophet T8. Nothing like all those knobs, keys, and wood. If I were to invest in one classic, that would be it.

I personaly would love a Roland Fantom X8. Yeah I know its just another rompler...but I dont have much $ and having the 88keys, the sequencer, the drum pads, and the "cover all" aspect to the sound set would be wonderful. Right now I have a few small pay vsts and a lot of freebee stuff. While most of that covers the digital oddity and virtual analog well I am lacking good "realistic" sounds and also am tied to my computer for creation. Now I know that sounds odd being that I am a member of KVR and all...but I started on hardware synths and still havent gotten use to being tied to my computer yet
(edit/addition)
Cant forget about the Muse Receptor either...nice hardware/software option

I personally would prefer hardware if I could afford it. But show me a free synth in the hardware world! The average pay VSTi are the price of some mundane but necessary basic hardware like a midi thru box or something. I remember spending tons of cash on my midi studio in the 80's to do a minute smidgen of what Reason alone can do now. We're not even talking audio recording. I spent at least 10 grand in gear to be able to sequence 5 or six voices at once circa 1986. Yikes!

I've always loved Waldorf's MicrowaveXT... (The orange and red one!)
It sounds great, but I think I mostly like the way it looks in a studio! Character visual to go with character sounds!

Any full blown modular (in my case it was a 3 panel serge)... there's nothing more impressive then a wall full of colorfull patch leads and kobs. (and playing with them!)
there's a good chance my next purchase will be
on one of these sites.
