If yes, what's your oppinion? Is the Colossus the new king of allround soundsets? How does it compare to SampleTank 2 XL?

It's definately better than ST2XL, but I'd say it's only really good if you've got no libraries and want to spend $1000 on a big library to cover everything. It's got most of your basic stuff covered.

If you really want some variety, wait for Garritan GPO Advanced and Big Band & Jazz, these will really add tons of high quality instruments to your collection and some of those instruments are rare - like Cimbassos, Mellophones, Euphoniums, Sarrusophones and what have you, Big Band & Jazz has something like 15 different saxophones to choose from.

I've just bought GPO. What's the difference between that and GPO Advanced? Can I upgrade?

A huge difference, I have GPO but I'm getting GPO Advanced when it comes out.

I'm sure the upgrade path will be fairly generous, knowing Garritan's famous top-notch customer service.

GPO Advanced will feature more articulations and more instruments - and you'll also have plenty of rare instruments too - Euphonium, Cimbasso, Wagner Tuba, Mellophone just to name a few of the brass instruments that will be in GPO Advanced. It's going to be nice. Big Band & Jazz will be awesome for jazz/brass band pieces, and it's going to be a killer library.

I haven't heard Colossus, but I think the numbers are pretty revealing. Quite simply: ST2 has tons of sounds at decent quality, Colossus has fewer sounds at higher quality (and higher price).

How much will GPO advanced be?

I think I'll wait on buying the new Miroslav/Philharmonik from SR/IK until I hear about GPO advanced.

I just checked out about 7 of the Colossus demos. I can't honestly believe that a Triton, Motif, Sonik Synth2 or Sampletank 2 have anything of that caliber. The brass, guitars, drums, organs, strings etc. all sound VERY close to the real thing. If my instrumentation relied heavily on real instrument sounds I'd sell the rest of my gear and buy Colossus.

That's exactly what I'm thinking.

The funny part is that I own a Triton, Sonik Synth 2 and Sampletank 2.

Demo "Stomping at the Springs" on the above site.
I'm gobsmacked. Is the expressiveness of the individual instruments available just to "play" on the keyboard, or is there post-playing work needed? If this thing can play like this from the keyboard, then I'm gonna sell one of the children!

Got SS1, SS2, Vint-audio C7 Piano, Sonik Capsules. But apart from the C7 this level of expressiveness simply isn't possible.

update; I got RA this morning and I've been playing with it pretty much all day. It's FANTASTIC! The sound quality, articulations, and range of instruments is absolutely phenomenal. It really is a definitive collection. The patch organization system is really nice, with almost all instruments having several "Live" patches which are very playable so you don't have to sort through all the different articulations (though you can do that too). Keyswitches are included with most of the instruments as well. Finally, everything is dry. Thank God. I hate built-in reverb, particularly Gold's; I'd much rather use my own reverb and alter the dry/wet ratio myself, rather than have my solo instruments drowned out with no way of altering them.

Have you tried QL Colossus or QL RA?
