I downloaded the orchestral samples from the samplefusion site... now, each instrument folder (strings for example) has a number of wave files that are labled a key (Strings C1, Strings F#1 Strings A2 etc...). They however do not contain any mapping file... so how do i use them... do i have to manually make a layer, assign it daughter channels, load each individual wave onto one daughter samler, then keymap that wave till an area where the next sample kiks in..? I dont think ill get to do this right... howdo u guyz use them ???

I really need some help here...

thanks.

I dont think you can... :?

Maybe you can make your own soundfont?

AFAIK I dont think FL Sampler has a keymap function (I asked this once on their forum and I never got an answer). I think you can only plug in a sound and strech it. I kind of understand what your trying to do, but what a pain in the ass. Have you tried another sampler? Mostly everything maps well by NI. DS404 by CM can map but you'll probably need to look for the tutorial, its kinda a pain in the ass as well, but a better sampler. I know there are some others as well. If all else fails, use the FPC drum machine to map; at least you'll get something like 16 samples instead of just one.

I think someone on the looptalk messageboard has made some soundfonts from the multi-samples though I'm not sure which instruments...

That was an ans to my query there... but he saz hes posted them to Image line and as of now he does not know if we can use them... i fail to see the whole point of the 2GB download htat they tell us about... what am i supposed to do with the orchestra CD download? And is it the same with the CD's that they charge you for? No arrangement ?

As far the FL sampler goes, You cannot load more that one sample into a sampler. What you can do, is create a layer generator, assign it as many daughter channels (samplers) as you have samples to create the bank. Then within each sampler , assign the loaded sample a specific keyzone for trigger....

from the FL forums Loop Talk :
I just downloaded the orchestral sample set from samplefusion. I want to know how do you guyz go about implementing these samples within FL. they need to be keymapped proper. Dont think there are any multi velocity samples are there, especially in the percussion CD`s ?

You can use a layer, or any vst sampler. I just uploaded all of the Orchestral, Amped, Bass Case, and TouchPads done in soundfont form to Image-Line. But wether or not they let you have them is unknown at this point.

Did you not see the further post by Buckskin ?

"Included in this zip file is an FL Studio "Layer" file. all you need to do is unzip the samples to a folder FL will find them in, (you set this in the file properties in FLS). And click and drag the .fst file onto a sampler channel or the pattern sequencer itself. By using the .fst file these samples will then be layered properly for use. Make sure that you've selected the layer channel to score or use a midi controller with."

I have not tried but that seems to sort it ?

yes.. but would not this *.fst file be applicable only to the samples that were includede with the example (thats what he meant it to be I presume).

which would then mean that I need to make a seperate FST for all multikey samples that I downloaded from sampletank.

I actually might make the effort to keymap manually... My problen is not knowing how far (up and down from its root key) to keymap a sample, before the next one kiks in.

One more question. Why does not ImageLine make seperate *.fst files and include them with the relevant samplebank download ? How do they intend these samples to be used ?

Take for example "The Cell" sample bank from the Orchestral CD. The contents are :

Name Size

The Cell\Cell_A1.wav 317kb
The Cell\Cell_A2.wav 296kb
The Cell\Cell_A3.wav 275kb
The Cell\Cell_A4.wav 275kb
The Cell\Cell_C1.wav 339kb
The Cell\Cell_C2.wav 325kb
The Cell\Cell_C3.wav 308kb
The Cell\Cell_C4.wav 269kb
The Cell\Cell_C5.wav 274kb
The Cell\Cell_D#1.wav 284kb
The Cell\Cell_D#2.wav 310kb
The Cell\Cell_D#3.wav 289kb
The Cell\Cell_F#1.wav 312kb
The Cell\Cell_F#2.wav 312kb
The Cell\Cell_F#3.wav 275kb
The Cell\Cell_F4.wav 292kb

Total (16) 4.759kb

And thats all thats in there.. how am I supposed to use it ? please help me here...

Try the Cyber free sampler.

It's free and easy to use.

You would map the

c1 to the c1 and c#1 keys
d#1 to the d1 and d#1 keys
etc.

Spread the samples over the keyboard.

If you get cyber free you just right click on the GUI and it will give you a menu. Choose add a sample and navigate to the folder that contains the sample.

Thank you for that!

One more question,

lets take the following example :

Name Size
Stringy\Stringy_A#3.wav 326kb
Stringy\Stringy_A2.wav 331kb
Stringy\Stringy_C#2.wav 329kb
Stringy\Stringy_C1.wav 328kb
Stringy\Stringy_C5.wav 310kb
Stringy\Stringy_D3.wav 328kb
Stringy\Stringy_D4.wav 313kb
Stringy\Stringy_E1.wav 329kb
Stringy\Stringy_F#2.wav 330kb
Stringy\Stringy_F#3.wav 329kb
Stringy\Stringy_G#1.wav 329kb
Stringy\Stringy_G4.wav 312kb
Total (12) 3.899kb

In this set of samples... we have the first sample at a root note of C1, the next is at C#2. Would this not be too much of a strech ? Would it better to also bring the C#2 sample down a bit ?

Also, is this the way that these samples are intended for use? Excuse my ignorance but so far I have only worked with samples that come premapped for some sampler or the other, at least as soundfonts.

Sample fusion sells these sample CD's at a cost, withought any mapping information ? I was expecting all these banks to have a file which would automap them in FL...

I think SFZ [free] might be a better choice than CyberFree. Both work very well with FLstudio.

The "downside" to SFZ -- you need to define the sample mapping in a text file (versus CyberFree which has a GUI). Although I think there is a third party freeware sample mapper for SFZ. Either way, SFZ's text file is relatively easy to understand and set up; once done, it is largely reusable as a template for other sample sets. Oh yes, DiscoDSP Highlife [even the demo] also creates SFZ mappings. You might want to check out this highly useful but somewhat expensive program.

Finally, the SFZ player is cleaner/richer sounding IMO.

SFZ, i already have it. I did not know one could do mappings within SFZ also.

C2 is not the next sample. There is an E1 and a G#1.

The number after the letter is the octave of the sample.

You would use the C1, E1, and G#1 to map out the first octave.

Then the C#2, F#2, and A2 to map out the next octave.

Post

You could use sfz, but I have not figured out how to do the mappings.
