KVR has a great database for effects, instruments, and hosts (with reviews). But it doesn't seem to accommodate sample sets, like soundfonts or sample sets for popular sample players.
It sure would be great to have as good a one-stop shop for sample sets as we have here for effects, instruments, and plugin hosts.
The closest thing we do have is Hammersound.net, but unfortunately, that's not kept up-to-date. There's sf2midi, but that site is poorly organized and clumsy to use. It sure would be nice if someone did it right, like KVR does for the other items!
Thanks,
Jeff

There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Thanks, but not really a very good start. Most of those sites are "sound clips" rather than "samples" as in a sampled instrument. None of them are broad-based collections of sample sets like soundfonts. None of them are comprehensive databases of instrument sample sets with reviews.
What I want to see is something like kvr's database, but including sample sets like soundfonts. One that differentiates between "all-inclusive" soundfonts (complete sound banks) versus "one-instrument" soundfonts. One that allows us to search based on criteria. Etc.
PS: I'm a Bertrand Russell fan too

Hmm, no interest at all?
Other than sf2midi.com, there doesn't seem to be a good soundfont/instrument-sample-set site that's being maintained.
sf2midi is very clunky because when I'm looking for, say, piano, I get all sorts of GM banks that happen to have piano included. Not to mention that it only supports SF2 formats, and not even any of the compressed versions of that.
(Is there a generic term for sounfont-like sampled instruments or banks, regardless of format? "Sample" is also used to mean music snippets, loops, etc.)
Thanks!
