i know, i suck with the 'giving jackdark loads of props all the time' thing, but...

i idiosyncratically keep all sound in rt generation + don't "print audio" inside tracks, so perhaps more of a shock to me.. that way of worknig would drive me crazy.

i'll stop now, but funny, that..

i got effects, let alone synths that would eat a 450..

Hey, Jack and are compatriots. I still do everything on a P2 333mHz overclocked to 400.

Here you go!!!

xoxos - where did you read about him doing it all on a 450mHz box???

:-o

I cant open the control panel of my audio interface without using more CPU than that!!!

It's a struggle sometimes. I have to make sure steam for instance is always set to mono if I want to have a go at it. One note takes roughly one-third of all CPU.

But as long as I don't expect to do my taxes at the same time as making music, I don't run in to too many problems. About every year of the past four I keep saying I'm going to upgrade, but I usually find something else to blow my money on. Plus, it's forced me to keep things fairly well-oiled on my machine.

my last record was done on a P11 333 overclocked to 400 as well  and for some reason i had way more fun making music on it than on the new p4 2.4 laptop...
i need to regain focus... :(

Wow how did I miss this post...

XOXOS is referring to the information I posted in the synopsis of the album Vagabond Neologist, something you have access to when you get the full version of the album (among other goodies).

It was indeed written on a PII 450Mhz with a mere SoundBlaster PCI512 soundcard.

Basically pure shit.

Wasn't the easiest thing in the world. It's all about track bouncing... Write a synth line, export it to .wav, import it, use an effect or three, little chugging, export again... etc. etc. The final mixes are just huge exported .wav sections of the songs sequenced in "proper" order.

It wasn't easy, but I'm poor.

I'm hoping maybe of the course of a few months I'll sell enough copies of the album to afford an Athlon XP 3000+ and a SB Audigy 2... the possibilties then would be massive.

Thanks XOXOS, for understanding the pain. :maniacal laugh:

I made an entire song on a PII 400 with 384 megs of RAM and a Turtle Beach Montego (Aureal A3D Vortex 1.0 chipset) just two years ago, with no freezing, rendering, or any of that crap. The song could be played entirely in real time with no dropouts, though to be fair, I didn't have a MIDI keyboard at the time so my latency was sky high--probably around 90ms.

In retrospect, it was a pretty crappy song, but at the time, it was good enough for me to get the highest grade in the class for that particular project.

Sometimes it's quite fun the have limited resources. I composed this little tune on my girlfriends p3 1ghz laptop. It's basically FL Studio 5 with it's included samples and FabFilter for lead & bass. In the end I added a pad which I could never hear in realtime.. I just guessed the notes and rendered. Btw. the render took over 90minutes to do!! :-o  :-o , probably because I added all my favourite voxengo mastering things on the master, set to full quality and FL bounce to Sinc 256. :hihi:

Note, I also screwed up the last break.. it was supposed to have a longer pause, making it more dramatic but alas, I screwed it up.. and there was no way I was gona bounce that bastard again!

Cheers!
