i have a BIIIIG problem! i've recorded drums on a 8-track minidisc recorder.
because i have only one "line in" on my soundcard i've recorded the tracks separately on the computer.

but now the timing of the tracks is terrible. how do i get them synchronized again in cakewalk sonar?

Post

move them
An idiot on Set Theory:

that's funny. haha.

it don't work because i'm not able to move the tracks as exactly as they have to.

How are you getting the tracks to your computer? Are you actually recording the output of the 8-track?

If you have a c.d. burner on the 8-track, you could burn the tracks as wav. files and get them on your computer that way, they should match up perfectly.

Otherwise, pick out some event at the beginning of the tracks, (like, say, the count off, or some sharp noise), and use it to line the tracks up by sight in Sonar.

the 8-track hasn't got a cd burner. i recorded the master output of it.
i've tried to use the count-in but it doesn't work very well.
it seems sonar uses a grid and so i cannot move the tracks exactly as i want them.

Post

you can turn off the grid
If it sounds good it is good.

how?

It is in the manual, or the getting started reference.

Is it possible for you to record a sine tone for the first few seconds of EACH and EVERY track at the same time location??

That way, when you record from the master output you have a reference to line all your tracks up to.

Possibly this may work for you.

The trick, though, is to record it on all tracks simultaneously.

Make one of the tracks with a regular pulse (say, the hi-hat) into a groove clip and use groove quantitize on the other tracks. It's in the manual...

As suggested many times, you problem with moving the tracks will be solved by disabling the grid (that blue button in the 11th position that looks like a grid that should be grey, not blue).
