I'm biting the paintwork here..it tells me I have over a 100 mins to complete copying the 2nd library disk..I wish I had kicked this off before I finished work.

seems to be hopeless to get any information here.

people get 7.5 gb of vienna sounds on top of their nu sampler and no one is excited about it.

strange.

anyhow...i've heard :hihi: that kontakt II is a cpu monster so my buying plans are redundant.

I can't buy each time a new set of hardware for a piece of blowzy uneconomical written piece of software.

There are a few comments on the VSL samples in this thread from the cubase.net forum.

yeah the main reason I would upgrade would be for vienna sounds.

For about six dollars in shipping you can request the free demo CD from ilio and get another 4 Gig of free VSL samples. However I'm not sure if these overlap or not. Also, the demo ranges are limited but still quite useful.

Strange, from what I read on the NI forums, it seems the basic sampling engine is MUCH more CPU economical than the old one. It's the new features - convolution and KSP - which seem to eat resources...

I'm also eager to hear the new Kontakt 2 library... Is there any solo strings stuff? Portamento? How are the KSP guitars?

etc etc...

Bah... Just read that Cubase.Net thread.. No solo strings? The one thing missing from Opus 1 :x

Yeah but starting tomorrow morning there is Opus 2 (no foolin - I think). Check VSL tomorrow for specifics.

Just got K2 this morning. Installing now.. I'll report my findings in an hour or two.

Ok, after plenty of testing, the verdict is..

AWESOME! I love this! These are some of the best sounds I've ever heard (and I'm an owner of QLSO Gold and GPO, among other things). Articulation list might not be as buff as Gold, but there's a wide range of instruments, including solo instruments (but no solo strings). Slap a convolution erverb on them and you have a fantastic orchestral sound. I really like some of the mallet & bell instruments in particular, though I'm still exploring everything.

KSP is a little weird. The KSP instruments are in their own folder, so I don't think the bulk of the VSL library included is programmed for them (though they use normal Kontakt programming). I only really tried the legato patches, and they DID sound great. You basically just play and the KSP will activate while you're playing. I tried it with the french horn ensemble patch first, and I got probably the most realistic passage I've ever heard out of my samples.

So bottom line: it's great. Back to playing with it.

VSL is fantastic. If you get a chance to get the performance tool plus samples from Kontact then it would be a fantastic addition to your library..

incredible, beautiful, must buy samples

I just can't believe this thing(kontact2) is a sampler any more,
the browsing has changed dramatically.
Here's to the future of samplers.
(ok sorry  that's not on topic right? )
