Do Windows media Player or Itunes do something to your music files if you play them through either of them. something nagging me in the back of my mind I think i heard somewhere that media player does something to files so you shouldn't play your original files through it? anybody know anything about this

As far as I know iTunes embeds how many times a song has been played completely (play count), but it's only itunes readable...

winamp's media library does the same thing, these aren't actually tracked within the mp3 file itself, but in the application's databasepüRe wrote:As far as I know iTunes embeds how many times a song has been played completely (play count), but it's only itunes readable...
actually, winamp's ML has integrated everything that iTunes has, the ratings, the playcount, etc., to make it a no-brainer to keep using WinAmp instead of iTunes. With the iPod support plugin, you can do everything mp3 and iPod related directly within WinAmp (except use the shitty iTunes store)

I'm using iTunes mostly as my library player (ie. ripped cds)....Winamp is still default for playing all files though I never liked it as a media center/itunesish thing...Muff Wiggler wrote:winamp's media library does the same thing, these aren't actually tracked within the mp3 file itself, but in the application's databasepüRe wrote:As far as I know iTunes embeds how many times a song has been played completely (play count), but it's only itunes readable...
