Is there any free plugin that allows to read joystick movements and convert them to midi within the host?
I already tried the standalone ones, and they are great. But I'm looking for something that will work from inside Cubase so I make my worflow smoother.

Thanks, Andrés

There's MiJoy & Mijoy Pro in the Instruments section. I've never tried them but they sound like they'll do the job.

I actually considered this myself, trying that midi-joystick thing cause i just purchased a keyboard without a pitch bender on it.
But I don´t understand why you want it to be a plugin.. I mean, the drivers for the rest of your hardware sits in your system and not in Cubase, so isn´t it the most natural to let it stay there?
Now I may not know shit about what I´m saying here, cause yet I haven´t tried it. But to me that seems like the most logical way of operating.

Peel: thanks for the suggestion, but I'm looking for a free one. Do you know any?

Roman Empire: I use it like that, but it has a couple of drawbacks:

1) you have more apps running
2) you need a virtual midi cable, which makes Cubase run slower (specially at the close)
3) The main one: you have to open the joystick app, select a setting, then open cubase, open your project, etc. If it's a plugin, it's saved with the project, so you have less steps and you improve your workflow. Plus, your joystick setting are saved with your project and not on their own.

Ok, that convinced me - I see exactly what you mean. Thanks!

PS: How is it using a joystick as a pitchbender, and should I rather get a small than a big joystick, recommendations etc?
Sorry for highjacking the thread! :)

never used it that way. In fact I don't have a joystick, but a racing wheel with pedals. I'm using the pedals as a wah wah.

I remember old Roland synths had joysticks instead of wheels. They were pretty short:

Yeah I´ll prolly go for a small one, which is also cheaper.

Thanks!

As some of you know, I'm pretty big on Bidule made by those crazy toque wearing, poutine eaters at Plogue.

Bidule (as of the v0.8 release) now supports Human Interface Devices (HID) --- including joysticks!

Please check out the link to the Plogue Forum thread below. It's a discussion about issues and implementation of HID's.

@cordura21:

Bidule also now has a VST dll that allows you to load it as a plugin within your favourite sequencer!

Check it out -- and enjoy.

Interesting topic. I was actually thinking about controlling Ableton Live with a PS2 hand controller...
Don't know how useful it would be, but it would look pretty cool (or nerdy, depending on your preferences...)

hey, those look great. I'm gonna try them tonight. They seem a little hard to get, though: when I click the pictures nothing happens.

should be ok for your needs, and it's free! tell me your thoughs and if you find bugs about it ;)
but don't buy middijoy, it's just a wrapped version of a dave haupt synthedit module. like mine, but mine is free...

hey, thanks very much. Gonna try that too.
