Not often I post tracks, but I'm really pleased with the way this one has turned out. This is really Shortwave Interferences 2, the first stalled about a week ago. :hihi:

All sounds made from shortwave radio interference (live input) + automation.

Big thanks to Spe3d for the space.

Cheers.

very nice tones, noise fits well as a backdrop

Thanks a lot Genetic_Junk. It's a mixture of process/composition/improvisation. I'm interested if people can tell which bits are which. :hihi:

Just beautiful, cron. A delight for the ears.

Seems to me this is only the second track by you that I've heard. I will henceforth chastise regularly for not posting here more often.

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks shamann. Your music always creates a lovely space in my head so your input is gratefully recieved.

I'm interested if any theory types have comments on the composition of the thing too. I should maybe point out that it's not as harsh/atonal as you might expect :P .

i loved the melodies in it (a bit MBV - touche!, but it was), but the ids stop/start malarky was good for a bit but got boring after a bit. You could have done the top maths gimp music trick of making each stop slightly less long using some kind of top prof formula (mebbe you did, but it got on me tits after a bit)

Where was the middle 8? :hihi:

Thanks a lot DT, I actually used a method you pioneered yourself to make it!

Well, there was bit more to it than that, but turd polish played a vital role in parts.

Funnily enough, my first comment on one of your tracks mentioned MBV.

Wow. THIS is gorgeous Cron. I'm guessing you used Audiomulch or Max/MSP? :hihi:

I'm also guessing that the melodies are made from some weird pitch plugins and random notes in a key signature???

Ha, I wish I could use Max/MSP to do that. Mulch it is then :hihi:.

Basically, the distant sounding plinky-plonk stuff is improvised with various amounts of pitch processing fading in and out. Everything else (i.e. the not distant plinky-plonk bits) was 100% 'composed' around it using mixer fades (with each 'note' on a different channel). The natural little pops and glitches from the interference were annoying at first, but they grew on me.

Took bastard ages to get all the automation right. I had to listen from the start every time I changed something to see how it would fit with already recorded plinky stuff, seen as there's no way to sync an audio file to the timeline in Mulch. :bang:

It sounds pretty close to how it did in my head though, so well worth it in the end. :)

It sounds cool man :) Good usage of the mixer fades, I do that a LOT in Reason too. (speaking of which, you could checkout my latest ;))

One step ahead.

Any other takers?

I would have had the cuts bleed out with a verb then cut the verb when the next part started..

Make sense?

Cheers Sickle. I tried to do something similar using Shapee to make everything pop in and out like that. It sounded almost guitary. Was a little too uncontrollable though.

I might try that reverb trick on the clean tones, don't want to mess up the grit of the interference on the 'chord' channel though.

Thanks a lot for listening. :)
