Problem with Reason 3..."Failed to open file"

I have Reason Adapted for Digidesign with my ProTools system. And I like it. So I decided to try Reason 3 demo. I install it, then when I start it, it gives me the splash screen, but then gives the error message, "Failed to open file". I click OK and it quits.
I've tried redownloading, and different compatibility modes just for the sake of trying. I've emailed Propellerheads about it with no reply, and posted in the Reason forum with no reply.
Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this?
Windows XP
1.3GHZ
320 RAM
Augidy with KX drivers(works great with all other apps)
Thanks for any help!

Just a quick bump, as it seems that I can't find the answer anywhere on the net. I hope someone here at KVR can at least share an opinion on what could be causing this.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to give another bump. I'm really bummed about this. It may not even be a Reason thing. As a matter of fact, it's probably a setup thing, but who knows? Not me, anyone?

I searched there and every other forum I know that is worth anything. And I emailed Propellerheads support several days ago. No confirmation that they even got it, none the less any response. That's why I'm so frustrated. I've posted this question at the official forum and bumped it three or four times and still nobody has responed at all. Again, it's frustrating.

I believe you will have to uninstall Reason adapted to use the 3.0 Demo. I had to uninstall 2.5 in order to upgrade to 3.0. The two Reason engines are different and are probably conflicting with each other. Hope this helps!

Yep - Reason 3 demo only uses Reason 3 demo files and it's all new Code from the ground up so early versions are incompatible on the same system I'm afraid.

I use Tracktion primarily on my PC, and even I'm surprised at how good it handles things. I do want to upgrade though to maybe an EMU card or something. I didn't mean to say that I get ProTools running with the Audigy. I wasn't thinking. It's the MBox. I got it through school. Sorry!
Anyway, I have uninstalled the adapted version, but no luck. Could something still be there?

Make sure your System 32 Folder has no rewire.dll or sharedrexlibrary.dll 's in it if so then delete .
Also try redownloading the demo - the file may have corrupted in the download procedure (just a possibility).
Other than that I'm stumped as it should start up fine.
I don't know what the max specified ram is for the demo but 320 meg seems a bit low also IMHO.
That said it sdhould still work .
It'as a shame really becuase I
Way better than 2.5 IMHO .

why is there so much pro tools anxiety on the forum here? I feel like i'm back at music school again.FaX wrote:koolkeys wrote:I have Reason Adapted for Digidesign with my ProTools system. i agree i had a similar problem with it and i used the search function to find the rewire.dll and delete 2 copies of it and it worked. Also, i think you have to uninstall your old copy of reason to install the new copy, but i may be wrong on this one. Nothing works better to fix software than to uninstall and reinstall.FaX wrote:koolkeys wrote:I just checked the registry and deleted all signs of Adapted. Still no luck.![]()

I deleted the rewire dll and the other one after uninstalling. I cleaned the registry of all signs of reason. I've redownloaded the demo. Still no luck. Could it be that this is not even a Reason problem? Is there something I could be missing on my system?
I'm so confused right now. Any other ideas?
I did like the Adapted, for what it was. I do use the Audigy on it and it was fine. I could rewire it just fine to Tracktion and all. But this is stumping me. I've given up on getting an answer from Propellerheads or their forum.
I can get a copy of Reason 2.5 for under $200, but I really, really like the version 3.0 from what I've messed around with on a friend's computer and even my Mac iBook, where the demo works great.

there will be a way to get it to work i am sure. Hang in there lol It is not very often that one has to use an older version of a program nowadays, especially with a program like Reason, because of the popularity. Most manufacturer's will push you to to "download the latest version."
