Can anyone rank this as good/not good compared to others as separate plug in's? I just bought Sonar 4 PE and this comes with it and I don't want to waste time learning to tweak if it won't even be acceptable quality. Obviously the name "Lexicon" means quite a bit, but can't find that specific plug-in anywhere outside of Sonar.

Thanks, and no offense to the Lexicon community. I just want to start with the "right" tools.

Far as I know, it's available only as a DX plug-in, and marketed only by Cakewalk.

I don't use it a lot, but many people whose opinions I consider good have said it sounds "grainy" or otherwise fails to live up to the grand name on its panel. Never having been privileged to know the Real Thing, I can't tell you how they compare. I just use it as a utility module now and then (but only in Sonar, ah well).

Dunno whether these are what you're looking for, but PSP Audio Products makes some dandy plug-ins, including two bearing the Lexicon name:

I've heard them same about the plugin....i've heard that it's very dramatic and dense...but not in a good way. Honstly though, never heard the plug myself. if you've got it already though, why not just take a flick through the presets man?

As for my reverb choices...

For synthetic sounding ambience...i recommend any reverb from silverspike....

As far as realistic rooms go...Spin Audio Roomverb M2 all the f**king way!

Step up to convolution reverb too while you're at it....there is an incredible amount of realism to be found there.

Have done, and my feelings were mixed. For some kinds of sounds I think it's just the ticket. Problem is, they tend to be sound effects, not musical sounds... :-D

Having said this, a warning: my opinion on this is, at best, barely valid. I honestly don't know enough to compare it to other similar units, and my ear misses many sound qualities that more experienced people notice. So my comments should be taken as "I've heard that..." not "I know..."

Craig Anderton wrote a piece in Sound On Sound last August that gave some good tips on how to use the Pantheon Reverb.

Most everyone seems to say to avoid the presets.

Oh no, sorry dude...lol...i wasn't asking you that. The original author of this thread said he has the sonar edition that it comes with. so i'm just curious as to why he doesn't listen to it himself and make a decision.

The right tool for the right job.

Pantheon is very useable. It just needs to be used in certain circumstances. Now I'm no reverb guru, so I don't claim to know the more reknown plugs. I have heard the negative opinions of about Pantheon but it has found a use in my mixes. Main reverb, no!

If you got Sonar 4PE you will probably get the most from the Sonitus reverb. Play with Sonitus then Pantheon; both are worth knowing.

Get some of the great free stuff around here: Silverspike, WAReverb, Ambience.

I suggest you do a search in the Cakewalk forum. There were a couple of great threads on this topic, one where Mr. Anderton himself chimed in.

I think there was a strong consensus that, with with the application of EQ to the reverb tails, it was great for some purposes.

If you search the Cakewalk forum, you should get the full scoop.

I'm disappointed with the Pantheon. I much prefer the Sonitus. The Pantheon is very colored where as the Sonitus seems much more transparent. I own a Lexicon reverb unit and love it. While the hardware colors the sound as well, it just seems warmer and more musical to my ears. I don't think the Pantheon comes even close. But in certain instances I'll use it, but I would never have purchased it.

Pantheon is not a realistic sounding reverb to my ears. And the presets do indeed suck. But I still do use it fairly often for ambient pieces to create huge washes of sound. It can be grainy, and it always sounds dark, but in general I find if you tune the parameters right you can get a nice sound. If you're looking for sweet light reverb like TC, you should steer clear of Pantheon. But if you want dense heavy dark reverb with long tails, it's a decent choice.

*ponder* I have a long, dark tail. So it can't be all bad.

The reverb is crap... Ultrafunk reverb is far nicer. Nuff said.

free reverbs are far nicer
