How to match vocal with the beat

Hi
I'm trying to mix a vocal onto a beat, but the vocal is too slow, and the beat is kinda fast. I think i have to play with the BPM settings, but I cant seem to figure it out. Is there any easy way to do this? I'm using Cubase SX 2.0. Do I have to resample the vocal, or is there anyway to detect the BPM of the vocal and edit it.

There are different ways to do this
First I would try slicing the vocal track. This way you wouldn't have to change the pitch of anything or change the tempo to the song.
Otherwise I would try a timestretching program.
AS for detecting the tempo of vocals, I recommend simply counting it or doing it mathmatically (with THIS tool).

Yeah...chop the vocal up first...it might work, and save yourself a fair bit of time.
Otherwise you either timestretch the beat, or shrink the vocal. And you don't need a separate program for it...the timestretching in SX2 is more than adequate (certainly up to a 30% stretch or thereabouts).
Sometimes you can get better results by chopping the vocal AND timestretching...just shrinking the odd word instead of the whole vocal line can work without losing the original feel.
And another way would be to use a beat chopper (Recycle etc) to chop the beat and get a midi pattern and audio hits from the loop - that way you can slow down the beat without even timestretching it. Although it won't always work - especially with loops with lots of open hats, or in fact any long drum sounds.

I use Recycle to chop up vocals. It takes a while to get the hang of before the tracks sound natural. A couple tips: try slicing the track where there are pauses and long vowel sounds. Also, pitching the track up or down a couple of cents works sometimes too.
