is there a program that I can load up an mpeg file into and cut 3/4ths of it out, basicly I've got a rehearsel video that was edited in vegas video. i don't have vegas video and I want to shorten the file
considerably. I don't want to do any special editing I just want to cut off the first 8 minutes.

If you have windows xp then movie maker should be free for you. It would do what you want quite easily.

herodotus thanks but would you know of something that would work for service pack 1, that app says it requires service pack 2

I wouldn't use WMM, because it'll transcode the MPEG, which is not what you want. I can't recommend an alternative though, since the program I use (VirtualDub) only supports AVI files.

Actually, if this is a one-time thing, there's plenty of shareware you can use. Easy Video Splitter would probably be a good choice.
