At last I have the steel drum sampleset available for you to download...
http://www.phunkynutts.com/steeldrum.php
I've included several formats which have been kindly converted by Totc Productions, whose free sample conversion service was amazing. Also a big thanks to Rozzer who created the initial sample bank and sorted out my the wavs, without him It would probably have taken me till next Xmas to get this finished!!..
Anyway, if you like this samplebank then please use it and send me the song!.. I'm looking for a few demo songs to stick on the site.
Cheers
Ben

Thanks for the sample set. Hopefully we can get you a better quality steel drum (Pan) to sample from, as this one seems to lack that rich sound at the higher notes. Don't mean to be rude, but I guess that I would appreciate to hear comments on my work also if I were to dedicate time into it.Glooper wrote:Also.. Thanks again.

yea the high notes in the set aren't that pure sounding... but IMO that brings nice rough vibe to it. i WOULD love to have some more smooth sounding pan stuff as samples too but this one definitely has its own good character that's not to be underestimated.
btocher, yea the same guy
nice to hear you like those songs!

Hi Ben!
Cool that you got these out - thanks so much
I'll try come up with a little demo tune over the next couple of days!
Thanks again,
Dave

Cheers for the comments people.
I kinda agree with the higher note sounds... however...the high notes on a steel drum are in the center of the steel drum... and the dented area is a lot smaller. This means that more of the pan resonates when they are hit and thus that higher notes are not as pure. This is an accurate representation and has the character of the steel drum I sampled, though could be missing some of the richness due to insufficient mics
. Ideally I'd be able to record other types of steel drums too, but unfortunetly I only had access to the one..
You could use EQ to try and remove some of the harshness if you wanted a more even sound. or just use a few of your favorite notes and map them to the whole of the keyboard.
sorry zion, I'm not going to be able to update the website tonight.. having to work late..
.. hopefully tomorrow
Mckenic.. that would be cool
Cheers
