The Glass SoundFont in SF2 format is based on various samples of blown glasses (not the moulded type) and a couple of lead crystal wine and brandy glass.

In the font you will find one bank with three presets

The first is best played in the lower range – it’s various samples of a glass being resonated by running a finger around the rim until the glass sings. You will find different tones at different octave ranges.

The second preset is one shots of water being poured into a couple of the lager vessels.

The third is glass taps, that can be played like a plucked instrument.

Pretty cool :D - I have one ton of near misses when trying to get the resonating on the glasses, this resulted in lots of rubs n squeaks  (not in this font) I may post them as wave files for others to mess about with in their sampler of choice, let me know if you would like them, and I will put an archive together.

EDIT: I have placed a few of the waves, plus some that are not in the sound font (like a few near misses) up as three archives, one for each bit rate 32, 24, 16, there are 25 files in each archive, plus a few stereo with the water recordings where fx enhancement took place at the time of recording.

Wave Files from 32 bit to 16 bit on this link :)

Thanks once again Spe3D for the sounds. I for one would like you to post the wave files of the "near misses." I just bought an edirol r-1 (on back order) so when I get it hopefully within the next month, I'll try my hand at sampling some atypical stuff.

oh neat!thanks Spe3d

Thank you Genetic :), I will construct an archive of the near misses and post that in the samples section a bit later. Its fun to be able to turn everyday objects into instruments (sometimes better than ‘real’ instruments too) it’s an addictive thing to get into, once hooked you will be having some great fun with your edirol Genetic.

Thanks maximilians1 :), no doubt more to follow in the near future too

Best regards,

Peter

It's funny that you say that because mine just arrived today! :) You'll be quite happy with the sound quality, judging by the few tests I've done. Also, the ability to simply plug in a USB cable and access the files directly makes it ideal for fast sample work. Good luck!

Edirol sound solutions are very good, I use an Edirol UA-5 external sound card a lot of the time as I can by-pass the need of a mixer as the mic ports can be phantom power driven. This helps a lot cutting down noise that external mixers (could) produce. Another benefit is if I want to dry sample an electric guitar, if the card is used with the laptop, again noise is bypassed (especially useful with single coil pick-ups). Real-time monitoring is another feature of it as well as 24/96 recording – no midi though, so if I want to use midi I use one of my other cards, or if I need more than two inputs/outputs, again another card is needed.

Best regards,

Peter

Thanks, i like very much you make a kind of "database" with a picture and some info about the instruments. It's make more real to me.

Genetic, you will become hooked to samperling, what mic are you going to use?

Thank you marce :D

Spe3D, thank you for all these unusual samples you're making available. It's great to hear something off the beaten track :)

Thank you btocher and Snowbeamdesert,

More to come from all sorts of sound creating devices and origins - I will start to make wave file collections and more mappings for other sample players too :D

Best regards,

Peter

all of these glasses, tincans, brrrrrrrrrrrr-Bohrer (that's german) are extremely useful and such a good idea. I always go around with my humble minidisk and record what I can get, but the quality is never in anything comparable to those wonderful bells and unusual sounds.
(For example in winter, as in Germany there was this much snow like not in ages, I always went through bavarian landscapes and recorded "snow", which is obviously silent, so I recorded my steps through the snow, but as usual quality is poor. Fun even though, and around 25 CDs full of wavs :hihi:)

Thanks very much for these sf2. I think I should get some better (little) mic, as normally I record in places where you can't take a big mic with you.
