10 best PLUGINS to get a fat stereo spread without..
What is the best way to get a cool nice stereo spread from a mono vocal track with out getting cancellation when the song is played on a mono stereo system?
In my old days I screwed up an album by using the cool plugin called Tools one (in Wavelab) which when played on a mono system the vocals disappeared 90%.
The artist did a TV appearance and was asked to lip sink but the vocals were gone. Boy did I look stupid !!!
Yes there is pseudo stereo but that’s not the way to go as it sounds weird etc.
How about waves S1 Imager? Is that really pseudo or ?
Is there a plugin that really kicks ass?

The best way to get a good stereo spread is to use excellent converters and intelligent panning. Also delay/early reflection can be used to add space.
Stereo wideners do not get used in my studio - they invariably screw up more than they fix.
Kind regards

I don't really work with vocals, but I would think a good chorus effect should do the job nicely. My go-to chorus right now is Kjaerhus Audio's Classic Chorus.

hey guys thanks!
Actually vocals is what I hope to find a plugin that great for creating a stereo spread.
DAVE I agree with you. Just wish I had your talent-knowledge to get the results like you can.
Thanks
Brad

Good point, of course realistic but just looking for a good plug.(No mono problems) What do you use?Jeez wrote:Do you want fat and wide, or subtle and realistic?
Also, what kind of sounds do you want to process?
Forever,
Kim.

This FX is very cood and clean, and its spreads as hell.
my first go to too for stereo that is subtle in color but fat. Mono is also no problem.

Starting with more subtle: wave arts surround, mda image (free), izotope Ozone.
Wave arts sounds cool with free mg phase shifter.
Ozone also has multiband saturation / enhancer untit with wet/dry and delay setting that can widen stereo image.

Send mono vox to stereo channel (stereo group in Cubase) and differentially eq each side. I use +3dB at 5k on one side and +3dB at 8k on the other. This gives a psuedo stereo vox track. On one side hype the top and bottom and compress the hell out of it and incrementally mix with the other side until you're happy. Boost a bit at around 5-7k to the mix and you've got a fat/wide vox track with added projection. Kjaerhus GAC-1 is an excellent way off achieving the same effect (after the differential eq and before the presence boost).
No mono compatability issue.
