The forums were buzzing with Project5 topics in the weeks before its release, now there is next to nothing being said. How many people picked this up and what are your opinions?

HI
There is little being said about P5 because the demo only had a limited amount of the plug-ins included, secondly not many people have recieved it - certainly the up-grade for previous owners are not in circulation yet - well not in the UK.
Once people get hold of it in greater numbers I am sure there will be plenty of opinions flying around!
There is of course the P5 forum - worth a look at no doubt.

What little I've seen has been enthusiastic about P5v2 and REALLY enthusiastic about the included Dimension synth by Rene (RGC aka Cakewalk).
I'm waiting for my FREE upgrade (I scored P5v1 for $130 on the last day of the free upgrade time... $130 for a top-grade RGC synth is a good deal even if I use nothing else...)

Funny thing here - I didn't bother installing P5v1, just used the serial to get the upgrade... and I don't know that I'll install the demo, just wait it out for the package to arrive...sgx wrote:Yeap I'm also waiting for my free upgrade. Got the demo though, and love it. Can't wait to screw around with dimension.
I can use the waiting time anyway, I did a format reinstall on one machine, and I still have "a bunch" of VSTI to reinstall, although I've been whittling down the list in the process.

Got mine, and loving it.
Upgraded from version 1.5
Audio recording is easy, Dimension sounds great, the effect section they added to Psyn is also good.
It's gapless, which rocks. It's also a great host for anyone using midi-controlled softsynths.
Not really using it for live performance or to do repetetive dance type stuff, so I don't really have an opinion on the Groove Matrix.
Haven't gotten too deep into the loop-edit capability yet.
Cons? Not a fan of the washed-out silvery 2-D interface. Wish they'd added more aux busses. (buses? how do you spell that?
)
all in all, I give it an 8.5 out of 10

I guess that's true that a lot of people are still waiting to get their copy. I received my free upgrade about a week ago (only 2 weeks after I mailed in for it) but haven't had time to play with it yet. On the P5 forums, there has been word that the upgrades are on backorder until the end of May, but Cakewalk has been really efficient so far, so I wouldn't expect it to take that long!
I've used SX in the past, but the features, the GUI, and the price of P5 v2 were just too good to pass up. I'll post more once I really get to know it.

Big disappointment for me. Groove Matrix misses all the crucial features of the Live session view and the rest of the workflow is clunky. Midi editing isn't great either. If you're hoping this will fill in the gaps of Live 4 you'll be unhappy.
It might work better for someone looking for a slightly more conventional host, but personally I think Sonar and Cubase have enough advantages on that end of the spectrum to win out.
For a complete all-in-one starter package it's a great deal though. I'd certainly take it over Reason or Fruity.

I tried the demo of v2 yesterday and I think it's really good. The midi editing is good, I love the looping/groove clip options and the way it handles device chains. It was easy to get into and get an arrangement going. That's for the sequencing part of it anyways, don't know much about the included instruments.

Got mine yesterday.
AWESOME
The Dimention synth is way, way too awesome for the price.
The new loop browser is oooooh soooo cooool.
That groove matrix will soon become THE way to work with clips. It is just so freakin scary easy to create something.

I am still working with the P5 2.0 web demo, until my upgrade arrives. The problem is I start creating some tracks, that start sounding good, but I can't save it.
I read the post, on the P5 forum about the P5 upgrade being on backorder. Cripes, it only starting shipping 17 days ago
......I guess Cake grossly underestimated the econonics of supply and demand.
What I have been able to use within the web demo contraints (save/export disabled, no track freeze, no Dimension synth, no GrooveSynth, beeps while in rewire mode, assignable MIDI controllers disabled, combine clips disabled etc.), I have been very impressed with. I especially like the well laid out and efficient GUI, the gapless audio engine, the new audio recording capabilities, track layers and track inspector. Plus the fact, I can use my UAD-1 plugins, with full PDC, while still enjoying a gapless audio experience, is just icing on the cake.
I think most people are like me and are still waiting on the full version though.
