I'll need good strings (primarily ensembles) for a project that i will be starting soon. I can afford a maximum of around 100USD. What are my best options ?
I also need the libraries to be downloadable. Unless it a sonic reality (we get those here)

I'm guessing you've tried the best free orchestral sf2s? (SJ Orchestral and Squidfont etc)
If so, I'm not sure what to suggest. $100 won't really buy you much of anything orchestral, especially if it has to be downloadable.
One thing I did find is the Claudius Bruese Strings from Wizoosounds. $167, downloadable and the demos sound pretty good. And you can choose only the articulations you need to save money. But there are no solo strings included (I think)

Sorry, I thought you meant guitar strings! I could have sold you some for a 100USD.
There's a few free string VSTi here on KVR. Try them out and see if they do the job.
There's one called Stringer by FalkeLabs. It's not too bad if I remember right. And String Synth by Algo music was OK as well.

yeah the sonic reality Symphony Strings are hot i've used them in my tracks for years now. you get a little version of sampletank with it too which is great.
I just bought Cosmo D's Cello cause I can NEVER get enough strings and he seems to have some experimental stuff going on in that library which is cool.

I wish there was something in that range.
I'm currently downloading the SampleTank string demo from the link in one of the above posts.
I have some E-mu soundfonts that arn't bad.
Try www.soundfont.com
There is the proteus 2 that is orchestral(I think it's the #2).
There is also the "Orchestral Strings" soundfont on that site for $40. There is a demo that uses this plus the "Woodwinds, Brass, and Orch Percussion" soundfont which is also $40.
The Orchestral String has seperate string sections as well as different size section.
There is a full violin section and a 10 violin section and a 5 violin section. There is a similar breakdown for the other strings.
If you need solo strings you will have to get the woodwinds package as they slyly put them there instead of with the rest of the strings.
I've been toying with the idea of getting these.
Oh, the SJ orchestral and Squidfont arn't as good as the $15 proteus banks. Actually, one of the banks in SJ is from the proteus.

I just listened to the sample tank strings. They have a lot of reverb and sound a bit synthy in the violins.
Go have a listen at soundfont.com. at the very least you may enjoy the demo. It's fairly good. Check out the demo for the world instuments library.

The BEST way to go low budget is to save up a bit and get Garriton Personal Orchestra for $280.
Check out the demos on their site. They sound very good.
It seems some pros are using it and it has been used for some television shows in the US.

for about 100 dollars/euros you get the primesounds session strings -set which is really limited as far as different articulations are concerned but sounds really good for certain stuff - really intimate "ensemble" sound. the guys who produced the set are on these forums and they seem to rock too.
http://www.mi7libraries.com/main/sample ... mit=Search has downloadable versions of the instruments which actually cost a lot more together than the full cd (which is about 100 euros) but if you pick just the patches you need and in the format you need then you can get by much cheaper.
hope this helps.

Go and Look at Sonic Implants, they have a Disc for strings at about $30? They have top quality sounds from what I know.
