Hi im new to this forum (been a lurker for a while now though) i'm having some problems (others i will adress in a different forum). I am having a lot of trouble with pitch correction. I have antares autotune 4, pitchright and another. I have also been using the built in pitch correction in adobes audition. The adobe one is ok except it doesn't hold the formant like antares.
The problem I am having with antares is (just one of many problems I have with this underdeveloped product) is that no matter what program I use it in- Audition, wavelab or soundforge- it leaves an audible "Click" every time it is used on a small part of the note (Which is the only way it can be effectively used in my opinion. Waves X-click and adobes click/pop eliminator cannot remove this because it's just not quite loud enough. Can anyone please give me some advice? Why are there no half decent pitch correctors. A cross between antares and adobes would be great!

Ahh.. I know exactly what you are talking about since OB-Tune (cut-down version of Auto-tune based on same code from Antares) does this as well. You are tuning sections of a wave file and on playback notice these clicks, right?
See, what I found out is that the tail and of the process, when applied, is leaving these behind since the signal at the tail (where it stops) is not complete silence.
I think you may want to try applying a Gate on the entire track (vocal track?) first, and save this as a copy (just in case), before doing your selective tuning. Just make sure that the start and end points of the tuning are outside the region start and end the gate generated.
Hope that makes sense...

I can't afford all that "do it for me" stuff. I just try to stay on pitch.

I thought it was cool that Cher stopped learning how to sing long enough to employ this for that one song. that was bitchin.

you should do that, too, strangejuice.

I've recorded some very good singers and still found auto-tune invaluable. This is because there is usually a take somewhere in a session that is really happening, but may be pitched "off" just a little in one or two places. Personally, I'd rather keep the "happening" take and apply a little auto-tune than put the singer through the ringer (sorry) and make them do it again at the risk of losing the same vibe (and usually the same vibe never happens again anyway).

So there! :-)

Thanks alot so theres no other ways of getting around this? Does the company know this? A whole chunk is too long most of the time, and the antares graph comes out all chopped up and sometimes decides to insert random blips and stuff. Selecting a whole chunk of audio (say a 1-2 second selection incl tail) would be better if the zoom tools on antares alowd you to really zoom right in but they dont- only to a very minimum extent. Another problem is they don't allow enough for vibrato- antares doesn't interpret this very well. Even worse "T' and "sss" and "Shhh" sounds really screw up the read out. And if there is any element of gravel in my voice either i get a zero read out on the graph- it comes out all choppy and unusable or I get a bizarre error message saying "ERROR: No error has occurred." I'm finding it easier to sing in tune than to sing compatibal to this money waster program. Sorry for being so harsh antares but I'm fed up with these shithouse pitch correction utilities.
What is melodyne like? Is that pitch correction?

Antares is actually pretty awesome, but is intended for 'full clip conditioning' IMO. If you know the key and scale of the instrument or vocal, just render the whole clip with Auto Tune. Audition it beforehand of course, and use the meter adjustment level and your ears as a guide. But once you hit that perfect level of correction, Antares is very reliable.

I believe Antares and no doubt others are pre and post analysing audio portions to anticipate what to pitch from/to. By just centering on the sour note for it to correct, it's literally going to say 'Here's your stinking note fool... Click!' ;) Same with WaveLab - sure you can select a bum note portion, use Pitch Correction to analyse and make cent adjustments all the way to changing the whole note value. But I usually region the portion with markers afterwards and use WaveForm Restorer on the front and back of the portion just to ensure a smooth and clickless transition.

Or, like Androidlove suggests - find a singer/player that has very good pitch to begin with and hire them. :hihi:

Where did you get your copy of antares autotune it must be different to mine. :?: :?: :?:

Sorry, my bad! I've got Auto Tune 3 still. But I think it's perfect as is. ;)

I assume the "click" you are referring to is at the start or end of the section of audio you are processing. This will almost always happen when applying an effect to a portion of a continuous audio track.

A very small fade or crossfade at the begining and end of the portion of audio you are processing will solve this problem.

In Cubase, I split the audio around the note/section I want to effect (using the scissor tool), apply the effect to that note and then apply a very small fade or crossfade at either end of the note. Other audio tools have similar functionality.

BetabugsAudio has a freeware Autotune in the works, but it uses Cycling 74's Pluggo runtime (also free). The latest Runtime has suddenly made the CarToon stop functioning (at least in Tracktion) so we gotta wait till that's all sorted out.

I suppose if you have the previous runtime you could give it a go. ;)

off googling "runtime" and "Cubase", I suspect.
