I have been struggling with this problem all weekend. I installed CM studio and had no problems with the installation. It plays the demo and I can load and play MIDI backing tracks but I can't seem to recors MIDI inputs from my keyboard. I have selected the UART on my SB live card as the input and tried every combination of settings I can think of but never get anything going in to the sequencer. I am newe to the whiole scene and wonder if I am missing something obvious. I have even tested the MIDI cable with a oscilloscope and there is data coming out from the DB 15 connector when I pres and release a key on the keyboard. Is there a SB setting that needs adjusting or is there a way I can verify that the UART is indeed working? I even went and got new KX drivers which installed and seem to be working but still no joy.
Help!!

You should read the FAQ at www.computermusic.co.uk - click on FORUM to get there. That will hellp some. Also, ComputerMusic has, I believe, still, some tutorials on CM that are tedious, but very useful.
From the symptoms you describe, it sounds like you have not yet enabled an external midi device from the Windows Control Panel. Click: START - SETTINGS - CONTROL PANEL - MULTIMEDIA - MIDI - ADD NEW INSTRUMENT - (YOUR SOUND CARD) - GENERAL MIDI INSTRUMENT.
Then when you open CM to the COMPOSER window you will be able to at least see 2 lights come on in the middle of the page when you press a note on your midi keyboard. They will be below the very small TEMPO and GRID windows near the center of the page. One is labeled "I", the other is "O". They will light to pink and blue when you press a note. This will tell you whether you have midi in-out signal working.
Then click on the small SYNTH RACK light just below the bigger SYNTH RACK heading. Then click inside the small window next to SYNTH just below this. A list of your installed vsti synths will pop open. Click on a synth. Do you get any sound now?
